Hi Kelly,
I feel your pain! I have had the same problem that you are having. My son is 18 months old and I have been a stay at home mom so I have been eating and watching TV the past year and a half and the only exercise that I was getting was house work and lifting my son. I recently started working out at the gym and I found the one thing that has really worked for me is Pilates. It works just about every inch of your body and it really boosts your energy levels. To make me feel pretty again I know this is gonna sound so high school but I have started tanning. It really makes me feel good especially considering I live in New England and it gets dark here at 4:30 and I don't see much sun!! My Father is a personal trainer and I asked him what he recommends and he said that a good diet and 30 minutes of cardio workout a day was the best for weight loss. Hope this helps. Let me know if this works for you too!!! |

Kelly, I am with you on this one. I have a three month old daughter and working out has been really tough. Before I was pregnant, I lost 65 pounds with weight watchers, and it really helped. If you can't get to meetings, they have an online program you can do too. They offer a lot of support. I gained 75 pounds with pregnancy! Fifty of it was extra fluid, and it left me in two weeks, but the extra 25 is hanging on for dear life. I just keep telling myself that I am worth it and deserve to feel good about myself. I am addicted to pizza, and I have to remind myself that pizza only feels good for about 15 minutes, but being in shape feels good for a lifetime. That may seem stupid, but positive self talk seems to help me when I am struggling. |

I feel the same way. I also gained 50 lbs. I have a three month old. I am trying to loose weight by walking at least a 1/2 hour a day. I have'nt noticed any change yet but it is helping my confidence. |

Thanks for the replies. It really helps knowing that I am not alone. Thanks for the suggestions also. I will keep you posted on how it all works out. I have one last question. What is a good cardio workout? |

Just wondering if anyone who responded is breastfeeding? Before becoming pregnant, I weighed 125# (and gained 31# during pregnancy). I tried to work out as much as possible during the pregnancy, but I am a physician and did not have much time to do so. I wasn't able to get in the gym to lift weights, but I hiked the mountain by my house almost every day. You ladies probably don't want to hear this, but since having my little one four months ago I have lost all my pregnancy weight, and then some (I now weigh 117#). I had to have an emergency c-section with my son, so I wasn't able to work out for eight weeks after he was born. My first week back in the gym I broke my foot, so I had to wait another 6 weeks to continue the work outs. I have just started hiking the mountain again with my son in a front sling called a Moby Wrap. It's great. Once you learn how to put it on, you can't even feel the babyand it provides great cardio. But, I think the biggest reason for my rapid weight loss has been sensible eating (although I do have to have some oatmeal cookies before bed at night) and BREASTFEEDING!!! I swear it's sucking the pounds right off me. If any of you is not breastfeeding, just get up and move. Since it's hard to make it to the gym with my son, I've asked my husband to go to a second hand sports store to buy me two 10 &15 pound dumbbell weights, two 10 and 25 pound plates, and a straight bar. With this little bit of equipment I can work upper and lower body at home (curls, squats, lunges, etc...). Get creative. I know having a little one at home is extremely time consuming, so we have to become inventive. Also, if you're not one who likes to eat really well, try out Jessica Seinfeld's book Deceptively Delicious. You'll get your veggies without even tasting them. Good luck & don't give up!!! |

I would like to thank you Allison for your information. I will give lifting weights a try. My hubby owns a weight bench and all that, but I just don't know what to workout. I guess I can just play around with them and see what seems to work. Thanks! |

Hey Kelly,
I know it can be very intimidating when first using weights. I would suggest googling on the internet 'arm workout', or 'leg workout'. Keep it simple. The fact is the more muscle you have, the more calories you're going to burn; even at rest. So be sure to do your cardio (about 30 min daily), and do the best you can with the weights. I don't even have a weight bench at my house, I just use a balance ball. And, by the way, a lot of the balance balls with come with instructional dvd's with excellent workout suggestions. If you're lifting weights as part of your workout, don't freak out if you gain a little before you start losing. Muscle is very dense and weighs a lot more than fat. By the way, you know you've got a great husband when he's telling you you're pretty when YOU feel you're not at your best. Once again, good luck!!! |

Hi Kelly, First I think having a baby is the most wonderful gift in the world and what the womans body goes through in that process is crazy and amazing. We all lose the baby weight at different paces. Hang in there, it will come off. We are all just built different. I'm breastfeeding and do think it helped pull the weight off tremendously. But I also live in a three story house with no elevator, so carrying my little man up and down stairs all day has got to be burnin some calories.
I wanted to share a website with you that might help. At least it is information and you can take what you want and leave the rest. It is www.gofigure8.com. There is a buddy system, calorie calculator, meal planning, etc. There are like 8000 people registered and supporting each other. I work for the company and really love the products. They are a very healthy weight loss system. But even without using the products, there is a ton of information on that page that may be helpful. If you want any information about the products you can email me. I'm not pushing the products, just really think the site, which is free, has some really helpful information and support. my email is cmcdonald47@tampabay.rr.com. Try not to stress. There is nothing more beautiful than a Mother. |
