When confronted to a tantrum, semi-tantrum I try to keep consistent in my reaction. However, I realize that when it occurs in public there is an additional element that aggravate me, I don't want to have to deal with the " look".
I try to carry the punishment at home and not say a word on the way, but if home is too far I have to react on the spot so I carry him in a private corner and make sure is getting the message that it is really ENOUGH.
What do you do?

| I have to agree...There is nothing like having the "STARE" to help make matters worse. I get down to his level, make him look me in the eye, and take a few breaths. Sometimes it works, other times, I tell him I'm going to walk away, and that changes his mind! |

| I do the same thing. I could care less what people think. I make the effort to get down on her level and talk to her and make sure she knows that I mean business. Often I have left an entire cart full of stuff at the service desk and apologize to them and tell them we have to leave due to my child's behavior. This works wonders in restaurants--my hubby or my self will pick her up take her outside tell her that if she acts up again we will go home. Last week she got crazy a few minutes after coming back in, and I took her by the hand loaded her in the car and we sat there while daddy and Grandma and Grandpa finished eating. Our food was brought out in a box, and she got to eat it cold at home. She cried and cried and I just sat in the car flipping through a catalog. Last night at dinner she was an ANGEL!!!!!! |

Venessa, I just wanted to give a suggestion about the going out to eat thing....I have to ask for the waitress to find a table in the back away from others if possible or in a corner, and that works WONDERS for keeping him better controled. Give it a try.
