Teenage Smoking
Does anyone have a teenager who is smoking?
When did it start, and how do you deal with it?

No, thank god. I did smoke as a teenager, socially, I never was addicted to them though. But no one in the family smokes, so that helps. We talk to my son about smoking, drugs etc. all the time, and he has shared with us that he knows of kids at school who do drugs and smoke. Very scary, but he consistently tells us not to worry, that he would never do anything that stupid.

I don't think my ss is smoking, he plays hockey and usually stays healthy during the season. His father smokes and I do too sometimes (outside ONLY and not in the car). I started as a teen and I always tell the kids that I am addicted and it has been hard to stop. I let them know the best way not to be an addict is not to start. Also I did quit while i was pregnant, if my man had stopped too I dont think I would still be smoking.

No teens smoking; however, oldest son (now 22) did start smoking sometime after he began driving and is now thoroughly addicted and hating it.

My hubby and my dad smoke, and my kids think it's gross. I've been very open about things like - that's why daddy looks so much older than he is; that's why grampa had a collapsed lung when he was younger than I am now; that's why both of them have yellow teeth; etc. in addition to all the recommended parenting stuff about smoking.

I began smoking when I was 23 years old. I smoked for 13 years. I quit smoking when I was pregnant with my first son. Then started again, 3 months later.

My son came to me when he was 9 years old, and told me to "please quit smoking. I cough when you are around me. The smoking from the outside, comes into the house. I smell it on your clothes, your kisses-its' all yucky". I quit that evening.

Its been 6 years. Because of our experience when he was small, I believe it impacted his life. My husband does not smoke either. None of his friends smoke. He feels people who smoke are not "cool", even though they think they are.

I truly believe smoking had an effect on me as for getting pregnant. I couldn't. Right after I stopped, within 3 months I was pregnant, and this time, it was for real!
