Protective Dogs
Hi all! In addition to my handsome almost 11 month old son I have 3 Jack Russell Terriers. We have the momma, daddy and their daughter. They used to not care who came in the house or around us, but when I got pregnantthey became really protective of me. They wouldn't leave my side, and would bark at anyone (especially men) who tried to come near me. Once the baby was born they wouldn't leave his side. They are not allowed in his room, but they lay in his doorway anytime he is in there. Whenever he goes anywhere they follow him. And now whenever we go on our morning outing (I jog 4 miles a day with the baby and dogs) they don't want anyone within about 15 feet of my little dude. It is really cute how much they protect him!! I couldn't have asked for a better family "pack".

Hi,
I am new to this group and I am not sure if you are in the Georgia area. I am going through that right now. Our dog is an Olde English Bulldogg. She is an outgoing dog. She can play with any breed of dogs. I never owned or been around dogs growing up. My husband had introduced her to me and I am in love with her. We hope that our baby will grow up to love her as much as we do. They seemed to respond to each other in a positive way. The dog will give kisses to the baby whenever she wakes up evenfrom a quick nap. We are so glad to have her as a family member. Thanks for sharing the story. Sincerely, Manichanh

I've had a dog when 2 of my kids were born, and while both were very interested and liked the baby, neither were very protective.

We do have a dog now that is very protective and it has nothing to do with pregnancy or babies. She's a blue heeler and bossing and protecting are what they do.

I always make sure I warn people that she is protective, though. I don't want her to ever bite someone that she has mistaken for a threat.

Hi Everyone....I'm new here. I have a 13yr old son and a 3 month old (really 1 month old corrected) baby boy. We have a Merle Great Dane. He is my older sons first dog,he's five yrs old.

He is so great with the baby, attentive but not overly protective. When the baby cries he goes over to check on him. He'll bring his blanket (yes, my dog has a wubby) over and lay down next to the crib.
