My daughter is 19 months and in the store I let her walk in for a change and she was playing in the toy dept. having fun! When it was time to leave she had a fit, screaming and she hit me in the face. I think she still needs to be in the shopping cart. But when she is in the cart she whines and wants out, if I'm taking to much time. Any suggestions? |

My daughter does this same thing! She wants to get down and walk so badly but she doesn't know that she has to hold our hands if she's going to walk. So we end up putting her in the cart and she throws a fit! I started not even putting her down when we go shopping. She goes right into the cart before we even get into the store. I make sure I take whatever toy she is most interested in that day with us and give it to her. We practice holdind hands at home so hopefully someday soon we can try it in public. And although it's not fun to rush, i try to get my shopping done before she has a melt down. |

I would keep her in the cart as long as possible, when I had my daughter it got really hard with my son to go anywhere because he wanted to walk, but they do get better at least he did, he wasn't a runner though. I few purchases unwanted and sorting through your cart before you pay for things, cause they will put stuff you don't need, but letting them know you have to check out before you open things. but their just testing their independence and they need to try new things we're at 2 1/2 and those terrible two's did start at 18m and we're now at the ascape artist stage. Good luck! |

Whether my son wants to be in the cart of not it is not up to him. We are the parents and if that is where we think is the best place for him and the safest then that is where he will be. If he starts to whine or throw a fit I just let him and ignore it. When he sees that other people are starting to look at him and I am not giving him a reaction he stops and then is fine the rest of the time.
Something you can do is keep her occupied. Let her pick out a small toy that she can bring in with her. Have a snack that she can munch on or something to drink . Our chores can be pretty boring for them, so try to make it fun. |

Just reading all the posts. My son is 17 months so we're approaching this stage. Right now if he does'nt get his way he has a fit. I plan on just keeping him in the shopping cart, if he has a fit so be it. We will definitly stay out of the toy department, won't even go near it! We will either perchase somting online or I'll ask my husband to buy somthing on his way home from work as a prize for being extar good or when we're potty training or somthing like that. |
