working new mom needs help
Hello everyone! I am a new mom of a happy 4 month old baby boy. He was and still is a BIG baby. He weighed 9.14lbs when he was born and was 21 1/4 inches long. Now he weighs about 16 lbs. My problem is with the feeding. I work and wasn't able to keep my milk supply up so I only breast fed for 3 months. Now he is strictly on formula but he seems to always be hungry. My pediatrician told me to start him on cereal but he still has the tongue reflex that pushes everything back out. I don't think he's quite ready for solids but I was wondering if I am doing something wrong in trying to feed him and if there is a trick to starting a baby on food. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks

my son is 7 weeks old, so i have no experience. However, my mom told me she started mixing cereal in with our formula. She stared with a t-spoon of cereal in each bottle and gradually increased it.

I would agree with adding the cereal to a bottle of formula and letting him drink that. I think it will fill him up for a longer period of time.

we actually started our little girl on baby food (stage 1) and single grain rice cereal at 3 months. Our little girl too was above average for he age at three months. Her peds doctor recommended once a day to start out. I am a nursing mother, so we did not use a bottle, we use a baby spoon. At first it is difficult due to the tongue reflex, but like anything with time it is easier. Your little guy will continue to do that until you teach him with a spoon. The rice ceral bottle is just holding him back. If you want to do that out of convience thats a different situation all together. My advice is go out get some good long wide bibs, a baby spoon, single grain cereal and feed that little man of yours. Trust me in the long run you will be glad you did it with a spoon. Best of wishes Lena

I agree with Lena!!! My son is almost 6 months now and HE LOVES baby food and cereal...never once did I have to feed iit to him in a bottle form...he did take a while getting used to the spoon...but now he grabs for it and grabls for the bowl and downs like 2 whole containers of stage 1 foods!!! He's a horse...but I stuck with the spoon and he is so used to it now...just keep with it and he will get used to it eventually!!!! It just takes time!!!! Blessings, Amy
