I have so many questions about this but my first one is how much should my daughter be drinking? She has 2 tbls of cereal in am and 2 at night with a vegetable and she is drinking about 24 oz of formular during the day - is that enough? Oh yes, she is 5 months old... |

Hi emily, Does she still wake up at night and take a bottle? And what kind of formula is she on? We have my daughter on nestle goodstart and it seems to go through her faster than her old formula did. she was on enfamil ar before. I would think that if she's still hungry she'll let you know. My baby is 6 months and she eats like a horse when it comes to her solid foods, she has 3 servings of solid foods a day along with these rice husk "biter biscuits" that i got her. She usually has about 24-36 oz of formula depending on her appetite but that is in a 24 hour period, she wakes up at 4 am for 4 oz then goes back to sleep. If she has an adequete amount of saliva and her skin looks good, not dry and has a good color to it, then i think she would be ok with the amount of fomula she is getting. if you think she might be thirsty after her solid foods try some water. |

I was told by my Peds office that my 8 month old should be getting 32oz a day. He for sure gets 24oz (3 - 8oz bottles) a day, but I try for the additional 8oz. If you're still concerned, call your Peds and ask them, that's what they're there for.
I started my son on cereal at 4 months and by the time we got to 5 months, he was eating a lot more than 2 tbsp. What I ended up switching to is fruits and veggies and mixing a little cereal in those just to chunk those up. I wasn't making fruit flavored cereal, more like cereal flavored fruit. I do not recommend getting the 1st foods. Go straight to the 2nd foods. The two are basically the same thing, but the 2nd foods are a little thicker, which I was already doing with the first foods and cereal. Plus the containers are bigger. My son is up to three meals a day and he eats about 8-14oz of solid foods per serving.
When I started Ian on solids, I did it three times a day. I would open one 3.5oz container in the morning and we would eat that all day. There were times when he wanted more so I would open a new one, but it was a way to get him on three meals a day, without substituting any of the nursings/bottles. |
