I am wondering if it is common to deal with the issues I am dealing with lately, concerning raising my teenage daughters...Brace yourselves, because I'm going to throw out to you all of the negative issues I have had to deal with lately. They are really weighing on my mind, as I worry about the state of the world my 4 daughters are growing up in. Through conversation with other moms, researching MySpace, and information from my daughters, I have learned: I am the only mom I know who does not allow my daughters to wear thongs, girls at school take the boys' phones to the restroom and take pictures of their "anatomy" and return them to the boys, I have seen partially nude pics of girls, and even their moms, on My Space, bi-sexuality and homosexuality is displayed and accepted at school....Please let me know if you have seen these same things. My sister says that I just need to move, that I live in a bad area. I'd like to know if that might be a possibility, or if these are problems all Christians are noticing in their areas. |

Tamara, I was going thru some of these postings and came across yours and had to say something. I am not the mother of a teenager yet, it will be many years ahead for my son. But you are not alone in your struggles. The world is full of evil EVERYWHERE. Only in heaven will we be away from all sin and evilness. But as long as we live in this world we will have people who do not love God and His Word and will not follow Christ. I am not saying that all non Christians are bad nor all who say they are Christians, good. But people themselves are capable of any kind of sin and wrongdoing. Our children need protecting and to be raised with values that come from God Himself to survive all this sin and depravity. It is our job as Christians, as parents, as women, to help guide and teach our children what is right and good and acceptable in the sight of God. You did not say how your girls react to the stuff around them but I just wanted you to know you are not alone, I see stuff like this with my friends and their kids. Most of my friends are from church but their kids have to deal with issues like this too and only by parents having a close and open relationship where conversation takes place and parents reiterating how God wants us to live, can they choose the right behaviours. Best to you and let us know how things are going with you all. |

These are of the world. You only have to look at the tv and see what is all around us. I have a 1 year old so thankfully I am not there yet. However, I have taught highschool for 5 years and it is there. I have taught in rural areas as well as upper class areas (fairly crime free). These are norms in the world. I have had kids in class who have been caught having sex in the bathroom or oral sex on the bus. The worst part is they don't understand what is wrong with it.
We have to remember that we are not of this world and while it repulses us the evil one is accomplishing his goal by blinding the world to the reality that there is such a thing as evil. There is no "level" for sin and that is becoming more and more evident in the world around us. The bigger question is how do we protect our children? I have though of homeschool as my daughter gets older but it seems to me that that only prolongs the inevitable. Are there any other opinions on that? |
