2 year old that will not eat anything?
I have a 2 year old daughter that will not eat anything besides a few foods(very few), and all the fruit you can imagine. She was the best eater when we transitioned her to solids. By 1 year of age she ate almost anything that was not to heavy on the spices. Now she will not even try it. She just stares at her plate when I offer her anything other than her few faves. Even foods that she used to scream about loving and shoving mouthfuls she will not even allow to go near her mouth. A few weeks back we went to a local restaurant and I had a soup that she freaked about and ate the entire bowl, we went back yesterday and I ordered it for her and nothing...hated it. She is barely two, and I guess our concern is that we want her to eat. I have made the mistake of just making her a sandwich at the end of our meal because she just sits there. When can you just send them to bed hungry??? She was underweight at about 15months due to a hospitalization due to stomach bug that she got 2 cases of in 2 months time. She did not eat much for about 1 month. She is perfect now, and within normal range. I am taking her to the doc in 1 week for a flu shot and will ask then...but until then any advice?

I stay home with her, and she gets one afternoon snack of fruit and milk after her nap, I have tried eliminating that to no avail.

WOW! This sounds like my son totally!! He is just about 21 months and will only eat fruit. He has some choice meals like grilled cheese, mac and cheese, and hot dogs, but that is it. I have tried things like you have and he will stay hungry and not eat. So lately, it feels like I am running a buffet for dinner. It is exhausting and I spoke to the peditrician about it and she stated that I should continue to offer him what I made for myself/husband and then give him his food, if he is refusing. She also suggested that I mix things with something he does like, so I have melted cheese and put it on veggies, or let him "dunk" everything and anything in ketchup. It works occassionally. I hope you get more responses b/c I would be curious too! Good luck.

I am going through basically the same thing with my 21 month-old. She eats fruit, cheese, crackers, peas, and chicken sticks. Other than that, it's nearly impossible to get her to eat anything else. I'm hoping that it's just a phase. She used to be such a good eater.

You hit the toddler food slump, my son is 2 1/2 and still will not eat a few days, except breakfast, which he loves bacon, OJ, Try reducing as much as possble what she drinks, also when we switch to low fat milk it helped a little, but it's just a stage, some days they will eat everything, some days they won't, also I found if he helps me in the process of making the food he is more likely to eat it.

Thank you all for the insight! It is always good to know that we are not alone in this!! I will keep trying, and I bought Jessica Seinfeld's book and plan to try some recipes to get more veggies in!!!

Please let me know how the Jessica Seinfield book is. We do a secret santa in my family and that is one of the things I asked for. On the Today show they had another woman with a book about purees on this morning, but I missed who it was and what the book was called.

The book is pretty good. It is a bit time consuming to get started initially, but I was able to make veggie puree with 2 veggies. It should get me through 4 recipes that use it. I made the mac and cheese with butternut squash yesterday and she ate it!!!! I will try another recipe 2-morrow!! Some of the things in the book I know she will not eat regardless, but I will wait till she becomes more compliant and willing to try things! Good luck to anyone trying it out!!!
