Weaning
My daughter is 6 mos. old and I would like to stop nursing, she has teeth and is biting! I had to go to work for 2 weeks when she was 3 1/2 mos. old and she would take the bottle then, but now she just bites on it and pushes it away. I am so mad that I didn't keep practicing with the bottle after I was done working. Any suggestions?

How about a breastpump? This way she can keep getting the breastmilk. I know they make bottles that are close to the breast, but I am not really sure which brand. Other then that just keep trying the bottle or maybe a sippy cup.

I am still giving her breastmilk for now... She just won't take the bottle. It seems like it is a battle of wills....How long to battle with a 6 month old?

You might have to try different brands of bottles and hope she gets comfortable with one. I have read that some moms just go right to a sippy cup and skip the bottle. I use the Avent bottles and sippies, my daughter latched right on to them.

I recommend the "breast flow" feeding products by first years. i am at the opposite end of the spectrum, my daughter just turned a month old and I have already pumped and used these bottles. The books say you should nurse exclusively until between 3 and 5 weeks to avoid nipple confusion but, I used these bottles (w/ pumped breastmilk) twice already and have seen no change. They are neat because they actually emulate the let down process w/ a double nipple set up. Hope this helps! Good luck!

i used the first years stuff too. i was unable to breast feed my kids do to having flat nipple syndrome. { or as my husband likes to tease, "she's got the milk plant, but no trucks to deliver".} lol. both my kids took to these bottles, where they didn't like the others.

I'm trying to wean as well. My son refused the bottles and sippy cups anytime they had formula in them. I tried pumping and using my milk and he got mad and refused them, or should I say threw them at me. I ended up giving him water with a little juice in the sippy cups and then he would take them. Now he is taking milk/formula in them. It took a little while before he would accept them. I'm using Nuby brand which he seems to like. I've also used Avent soft tip sippy cups. He is still breast feeding at night. I'm having a hard time weaning him then. Baby steps for us.

Feel your pain. my 5 mo. old was nursing and using a bottle, but she kept biting down on my nipples so i breastfed exclusively. I am trying to get her on a bottle as well and it is a no go. They say that if you take the bottle away it is harder to get them back on. Try Dr. Browns bottles. I am going to as well, many women swear that is the answer.
Good luck!

I also reccomend the "breast flow" by "first years" bottles. they are the closest to the actual breast and my son had no problem going back and forth from the breast to these bottles..when u go to the store if u check out all the nipples on the bottles these seem to look the closest to the breast and that is why i bought them and they are great. gl!

Are you wanting to wean her for any reason other than her having teeth? If she is refusing the bottle, maybe she's not ready to be weaned, she's still pretty young. You can train them to not bite down on you. I nursed all 6 of my children to atleast a year old. If I remember right they only ever bit down once :) My blood hurdling scream put the fear in them I think lol

So, I went to babies r us and bought a bunch of different bottles to try and a sippy cup for babies 3+ months. I do not recommend breast flow at all. Yes, it is shaped like a boob and is supposed to mimic nursing, but it spills all over the place. I tried Dr. Browns and she just refused completely. Supposedly Dr. Browns is the best to help reduce colic and gas. I tried the Nubi sippy cup which worked quite well. The only thing about the sippy cup is she has to bite down on an exact place to get the milk which can be difficult and grow tiresome. I haven't tried the avent bottle yet, but my friend swears by that brand. I DID however find that playtex drop ins have a nice system and a variety of nipplesto try. Some are shaped like the breast and I founf my baby to actually take to this one with more ease. I suggest you do the same as I did and go to the store and buy a bunch. babies r us will let you return ANYTHING, even if it is used, as long as you have the receipt, packaging, and cleaned/boiled what you have used.
Take your time, be patient, and I suggest you do it little by day. I try to give her the bottle in the mornings with her cereal. This wy there is no option of the breast. It is either solids or bottle. This way she doesn't get upset and is a happy baby either way.
Good Luck,
Caity

PS. I pump my milk and pour it into the bottles. I also will pump and instead of savinbg the milk I pour it in right away to give her. This way it's fresh and she will more likely take it (it's warm).
