My daughter just finished her antibiotics for a nasal/bronchial infection and now it seems she has caught another cold. I'm pretty sure she's catching it from daycare because there are so many kids there. She woke up this morning with a really bad runny nose, watery eyes etc. They took those infant cold stuff off the shelf.... whats a mom to do? Should i be taking her back to the dr for getting another cold so quickly? or is that normal at this age (6mo) becuase they are developing their immunites and are more suseptable to small colds than older children and adults. Any advice or tips? |

How is your daughter behaving? Is she still happy and playful or is still sick and miserable? My 8 month old son has a cold right now, but you wouldn't know it unless you looked at his runny nose. If she is happy and playful, I would dress her warm and let it run its course. If she is miserable, call your peds office. They may be able to tell you what you can do without having to go back in. |

Do you have some saline spray? The "little brands" makes it. Also use the suction to clear her nose when you can. I notice Emilie gets very congested when she is cutting teeth. As long as it is clear or white stuff coming out it is not an infection and there is not much the dr can do. As far as the cold meds, I have some but I very rarely use them. They don’t work well in babies. You may want to look for a homeopathic cold med, I am not sure if they make anything for infants but I think they would be safer to use. |

Just a thought too... what about food allergies? My son caught a cold from his Dad, and it seemed to be going away. But, every morning it seemed to come back. I figured out that it always got worse after he ate breakfast... usually fruit and rice cereal. I was using the rice just when was getting over the cold (because I ran out of oatmeal). When I realized there might be a connection, I stopped the rice cereal, and voila! No more runny nose. So, if you've started feeding her something new, maybe eliminate it and see what happens. Also turns out my husband was allergic to rice cereal when he was a baby. |

Let me also add he hadn't had rice cereal since he first started solids, and he is now almost one. |

She is acting happy and playful, she's a littlle crabby but i think that might have to do with the whole teething issue.. is a runny nose part of teething as well?? We also think it might be an alergy becuase she gets this way when we visit my mom, who has pets, and she lives in the country. She is doing a little better now so thats what leads me to belive it is an allergy. |

My daughter is 21 months old and has had about 8 or9 colds already maybe a few more. She had them all mostly her first year. Her pedi. says it is not uncommon because they are building up there immune systems. Also I stay home with Sarah so she isnt as exposed as your daughter and she still got sick. I gave Sarah otc meds. one time I think it was her second cold and I hated the way it made her feel. Well she stayed up so I know she probably felt like she was on a high l;ike i do when i take something. I would use a humidifier and saline nose drops. Raise the head of her bed to help her breath better. |
