Hi Rosalie, My son is only 14 months, so I can't help alot, but wanted to say that the Dr's have the chart they use and if they say he is on track, and is developing fine, he's great. I get a lot of people who say oh, he's a big boy, then others say, oh he's little. I think people don't remember really how big their kids where at what stage. I just smile and say ya, he's my big boy, or ya he's my little man. I figure he is perfect to me and the Dr. says he's on track, that's all that matters. |

I have a son who is 5 and is just over 30 lbs. He is a triplet and a preemie. His bone age x-ray shows 3year old. So he has 2 tears of growing room. We started him on growth hormone. He is the smallest in his class,Susan |

Hi there, My boys were born preemie, at 20 mths they are not walking, can talk and crawl go up and down the stairs and are 25 lbs and 27 lbs. My Dr, says boys are slower then girls, all my friends tell me something must be wrong if they are not walkin, but they can stand on the wall and creep around the tables and sofas...For they height though they are 36" and 37 1/2" very tall and people are always surprised coz they think they are 3 or so years and "how comes they aint walking" and I say I dont know, seriously if I knew I could tell!! |

I would say to other people ignore them because God makes every kid their own unique size and shape. I am short and so is my husband. Form early on i would have kids as well as mostly moms comment about his big head or his size. It hurt but you have to go on Our other son i am not sure but i know he will be toller. I hope this helps liz |

I get just the opposite reaction. Everyone tells me "man he is a big boy" "wow what a chunker". He is 16 months and 29 lbs. yes he is a bit on the big side but his drs arnt worried at all. I wouldnt be worried at all if your drs arnt. I was a teeny tiny baby and i didnt weigh 30 lbs till i was about 2 1/2-3. I didnt meet the weight requirement to get out of a carseat/booster till i was about 7-8. |

My boys are total opposites. My 2 year old is small, and he was 9lbs when he was born and went past term. He just turned 2 in August...and he only weighs 23lbs and stands about 31inches tall. He's tall and skinny. He's only in the 10th percentile for height, and 75th for weight. My 4 year old...just turned Wednesday is in the 100th percentile for both height and weight...he's 42lbs, 43inches. They just grow at their own pace...and he doesn't sound small to me. Ben barely wears 24month clothes...if it weren't for his height, he would be in 18months. : ) Hope this makes you feel better. |

sounds like your son is right on target! my son JUST MADE THE GROWTH CHARTS at 24 pounds. he is about 33 inches tall, though, and is in the 10th percentile for height. my 3 3/4 year old is 32 pounds and is fairly low on the growth chart, but kids really gain between 2 and 3 and from 3 to 4.
if you google "boys growth chart calculator" you can find sites that let you plug in his exact age, weight, height and tell you what percentile he is. do not worry unless: 1. he has not been growing consistently over the past year; 2. he is in less than the 5th percentile AND your family does not generally have shorter/lighter/etc kidlets. i KNOW his weight is just fine, but not too sure about the height. and if the dr and wic are fine, who cares what others think? |

My son is the same. He weights 31lbs and wears size 2t-3t and he is 21 months old. My 7 month old is 27.5 inches long and weighs 18lbs, but he is one of the exceptions he is in his 80% |

Hi Rosalie,
One of the best things I learned from pregnancy was there are certain things that should go in one ear and out the other.
People forget what their kids sizes, behavior, etc were so they tend to put there two cents in with new Mommies. If someone was to tell me my boy looked small, I'd just say "Oh - really- OK" and forget it, cause I know what he eats, I know how he is and I know what his DR says and that's all that matters.
Just by what you posted for sizes, I don't know if it's right or not because each child is different. My son is 29.2 lbs and 34 inches tall. He's like his Dad- tall and linky. But my BF's son is shorter and fatter, he's like his Papa and my BF who is short.
Also, this works-next time someone says something like that to you be funny like I would be and say "Yeah- but he's hung like a 5 year old"... LOL..... they'll either laugh or just be too shocked to respond. Hope this helps Mama! |

Both my boy's were big when they were born and have continued to be above average in height and weight. But for their height they are pretty right on with their weight. But to be honest my side of the family and hubby's side of the family has been known to have big babies. Also my husband is on the tall side at 6'4" tall. So that is why my boy's are big. My oldes they say is on the 95th precentile and my youngest is on the 90th precentile. So I would ignore people in what they say because every child is different in everything they do from how they grow to how they learn. So don't let it bother you. |

I get the same response from people about my son he's 2 1/2 and at 2 he was 32lbs and 37'' he hasn't grown much in the last 6 months except for he feet(he's now wearing a 10 shoe). to make you feel better on our street there is a boy who is 3 months older and has about 3'' on my son now that's a big boy! |

I wouldn't pay attention what others say. Everyones different. Most people said that my boy was big for his age. At 2 he was 361/2" and 35lbs. He's almost 6 now and he is 46" and 52lbs. He wears size 1 in shoes and 7 and 8 in clothes.I'm only 63" myself. It won't be long and he'll be as tall as me. |

My son just had his 4th birthday in August and he is in size 6 and 7's in clothes, and size 13 shoe. He is 44" tall and 53lbs. When he was born he was 6lb 3oz and 19.25" long.
Just about everyone that sees him thinks he is 5 or 5 1/2 years old. When he turned 3 everyone thought he was 4, because he was 40lb and 38" tall. When he was 2 he was 34lbs and 32" tall, and everyone though he was 2 or 2 1/2.

My older two boys have always been bigger. My oldest (7) is 85lbs and wears a 10. when he was born it was staight to the 3/6 mos clothes. And my 4yr old is 55 lbs. and wears a 5/6. The most difficult thing is people think that they should act older because the are bigger. My Dr thinks they are perfect and tells me not to worry.
So if your DR and WIC aren't worried either should you, I tell people thank I'm just thankful that they are healthy.

Hi, Rosalie! I have both ends of the spectrum with my 2 oldest boys. My oldest son is 11 and he's considered overweight and my 2nd son is 7 and considered underweight. I also have a 1 month old who is in the 90th percentile at this point which is also where my older boys were at his age. I honestly think that charts, while sometimes helpful, are designed around a certain accepted model and not really relevant to your son at all stages. It's just a snapshot of right now and cannot accurately predict where he'll be later on in life. I say if he's healthy and as you say "sharp as a whistle"..he's probably just fine!! Keep up the good work!! |

Every time I go out into public and someone asks how old my son is they comment on how big he is. My son Derrick was 8 lbs. 15 oz. when he was born and is going to be 16 months on Dec. 9th. He has been off the charts in both height and weight consistently since he was a month old. At his 15 month check up he weighed 33 lbs. and was 33 1/2 inches tall. He doesn't look chunky, he's just really big and tall. He wears 3T clothes and is in a 5 1/2 shoe. I think it's important to remember that people in general come in all different shapes and sizes and children are no exception. I think that there will always be people who have a tendency to forget what it was like to be a new parent having to deal with it all. You worry enough about your children's health and well-being and if you're being a good parent and setting the right examples and teaching them all they need to be taught. It's exhausting and the last thing that anyone needs is to have some know-it-all at the store telling us that there's something that's just not right with our child. Who are they to say so! Next time someone tells you that your child is too small for his age, just remind them that we don't come out of a human mold and are all very different! |

My son is 3 years old. He is skinny, skinny, skinny, but tall. He is wearing a 9 in shoes and 3T-4T in clothes depending on brand. Which is funny because your son sounds around the same size at that age. He just recently passed the 30 lbs weight mark. And they say my son is tall for his age. Go figure.
You shouldn't listen to other people. Shirley |

My son just turned 2 on the 1st of December. He doesn't go for his 2 year check up until Friday BUT at his 18 month check up he was 100% in Height and Weight. Only 1 time did he go to the doctor and he wasn't in the 100% for both. I measued/weighed him on his birthday and he is 37" and 33 lbs. Everyone thinks he is 3 to 3 1/2, he also wears a 3T or 4T depending on the maker. |
