Hi, I am first time mom and a bit confused at times. My son Aiden is 8 months old. He is usually a happy baby, but he will cry about a few things. Somtimes I cannot figure out what the issue is when he is crying, if he won't take his bottle,or a nap. he will cry sometimes when we are playing as well, or if he tries to play with something he shouldn't and I take it away. He just seems cranky, and Im not sure if it is his teeth hurt or what. Does anyone have any ideas? He will chew on tethers for a little while. |

Hi there. I use Hylands teething tablets with my son. They seem to help. Our dr also said if it is teeth that are bothering try using advil. It helps with their swollen gums. |

Hi Beth, Is he drooling a lot? I notice with my daughter that when her teeth start to come in she drools so much that I have to change her shirt like every hour. (she takes off her bibs) I sometimes use baby orajel that come in what looks like a Q-tip, it is a lot easier to put right on the gums and not all over her mouth and throat. I know a lot of moms that use teething tablets and they swear by them. Other then that he could be tired and maybe needing a nap. I notice with growth spurts my daughter sleeps more then usual and is cranky.

My son is the same way. He is always happy-except when he is teething. Some symptoms of teething are crankiness, drooling, red cheeks, sleepiness and fever. You can also look and feel around the gums to see if any teeth are coming in. The Hylands homeopathic teething tabs are extremely helpful. They also make a teething gel that helps. Sometimes I have given him a soft-nippled bottle or sippy cup with cold water in it. He uses it as a teether. He also likes vibrating teethers. If those things don't work I give him Children's Tylenol or Motrin. Best of wishes to you and your little one. |

The only way I've been able to figure out if my daughter was teething was to see how she reacted when I put Orajel on her gums. If the crying stopped almost instantly, I know she's teething. I'm sure others will tell you about the many different 'symtoms' that thier child has shown while teething. ^_^ If you are lucky enough to have some, it'll make that time a lot easier on you, too.
My daughter hit a lot of developemental milestones around 8 months, which made her both happy and just plain fustrated. Mine also started just being vocal about her disappointment and fustrations about that time, too, so you may be getting a double wammy. All you can really do for that is a little comforting and a lot of redirection. Good luck to you. ^_^ |

I took my daughter to the dentist for the first time yesterday (18 months) and the doctor said to use motrin or ibuprophen rather than tylenol for teething pain. He said they help more with the swelling. |

Hi, thanks for the replies. He is drooling alot! He already has six teeth, but I guess another may appear soon. I was having a rough day with him, and it seemed like nothing was helping, but he finally took a nap. I gave him some infant motrin, I think it did help. I havent seen those tablets in the store though. Is there anywhere specific that may carry them? |

I see the teething tablets in my local drug stores, in the baby isle. You can also get them on-line.
