Is it only a question of cost to choose public over private? For me is also a question of learning about all kind of people and all kind of background. The cost is also a factor expecially when you live in NYC and you think you better save for college.

I don't know about private schools enough to send dmy son their. I am however, looking into it. I do want to know the difference besides money. If I have to pay to get better results for my son overall, I think it is worth one less coffee a week. |

I have really been looking into private schools. Next year my daughter will be in 4th and my son will start pre-school. I don't know what the price is anywhere but at the one I have been looking at here it is 7,000 for the year for 4th grade. It just seems like so much money. Altogether we would have to pay close to 10k for the 1st year and it would go up every year after. I do like what they have to offer, but can I afford it I don't know. |

I started my son out in a private school. He received more one on one attention and since it was a Christian school he also got the benefit of learning good values and morals as taught from the Bible. The thing I did not like about this school was since I was paying for my son to be there, they wouldn't tell me about a lot of behavior issues he was having. I also have an ex-husband that used the fact that they didn't want to rock the boat for fear of losing the money from us for his own gain. We made the switch to public school last December. It was a hard decision because I like the fact he was getting the reinforcement about Christianity from his school. We have been pleasantly surprised by his elementary school. He has excelled. He enjoys walking out with his friends and me to come home. The school keeps all of the parents well informed about the progress of the kids behaviorally and educationally. The staff is nice but they don't take any crap from anyone because they are paid by the state not me. Which means my ex can't manipulate them. The classrooms do have more kids so he doesn't receive as much one on one though. I am anxious to see how he does this year because the lessons will be more difficult. So far, so good... |

Sarah, What grade is your child going into? Does the public school have any type of bible study. Our public school does for a certain period of time and it is optional if the parents want the child to participate or not. It's taught by the guidence counselors. |
