Non-Vaccinating Support
Public group from Hattiesburg, MS

let me introduce myself

Hi,

My name is Kellie Bischof and I recently moved to Hattiesburg, MS from Farmerville, LA. I am 27 years old and have been married to Tre for 5 years. We have two children: Emma who is 4, and Adeline (Addie) who is 2.

For a lot of different reasons, we have decided not to vaccinate our children. Upon learning that in the state of Mississippi I do not have the same exemption rights as I did in Louisiana, I became infuriated. Apparently in this great state I cannot enroll my children in a state certified daycare facility or school solely because of a medical decision that I have made for them.

Mississippi and West Virginia are the only two states without religious exemptions to immunizations. Why is that? Why does every other state offer at LEAST a religious exemption for parents who do not wish to inject their children with something grown on an aborted fetus or monkey kidney? (Eighteen states now offer not only a religious exemption, but also have a philosophical exemption for parents who disagree with vaccinations for practically any reason.)

From a health standpoint, has this lack of exemption done anything for the well-being of our state's children? Being that we have the highest infant mortality rate, I would venture to say "no"!

But back to the "Why" question. Why are we so different? How did all the other states obtain their exemption rights? What I would like to do is meet with local parents who would like to explore this issue further.

Please contact me if you would like to join this group or have any questions.
