Do you have to go to this ped for ins. reasons? If it were me I would be looking for a new dr. You should not be afraid to change peds until you find one that you are comfortable with, and who will listen to what you say. I can't stand going to the dr and they treat you like a number. |

Amanda I agree with you looking for another doctor. Anybody who is not taking you seriously is just marking off days so that they get paid. I know my pediatrician is on call for her patients all the time and has never once turned me away or made me feel like my daughter wasn't important to her. I would ask your friends and see who they go to and look around. Good luck and let us know. |

I would look for another dr. You should feel comfortable with your pediatrician. I hope you find a good one soon.
I don't know if the other dr told you, but a cold mist humidifier helps out a sinus infection. Both my son and I get them so we have our humidifier always going. |

You aren't alone. It's so difficult to find sensible doctor who works with people and listen to what is said to them instead of repeating routine. When Matthew was two months old we tried to switch him from Similac Isomil Advance (soy-based) to Enfamil (milk-based) as we were getting Enfamil from WIC and after about two weeks he started to spit up like crazy few times a day (really big ones) plus got really crunky and when I suggested his doctor that it can be milk allergy as I had it as a baby she said it's impossible (I wonder WHY?!) and dissmissed my question about testing him. So I thought OK but anyway switched him back and it got better. When he was about 6 months old I started giving him stuff containing a little bit of milk (thinking that ok, perhaps she was right and he just didn't tolerate that particular formula) like Gerber puddings and stuff. At some point his stools became softer and he had often the seedy one but at next check-up she said it's normal. So ok, I assumed that he can take milk and we switched him to Enfamil again at about 8 months old. And it was fine for some time. Than after about a month he had few days of vomitting for no particular reason and some fever and I took him to some walk-in clinic and doctor there said there is nothing wrong with him, it can be reflux (yeah, than I got confirmation that aside of everything else he has reflux, lol) or teething. Ok, it passed away after few days. But pooping was all the time crazy, a lot and very soft (but not watery so something just a step away from diarrhea but not diarrhea yet). And few weeks ago he started to vomit fierce at 4 am and was vomitting almost every hour so I took him to another doctor. I told her all about that along with my milk allergy as a baby and she said that it's just overfeeding!!! I tried to use her suggestion and the only thing which was helping a little was cutting down on milk. But he was still vomitting plus got diarrhea. So I took him after two days to ER saying that he can have milk allergy. And dr said that it would have happen two weeks after starting formula not now so it's virus. But nevertheless diet he prescribed Matthew was still vomitting and diarrhea was still there. Next morning he got rush! Ok, so we were home. we switched him back to soy formula and withdrew all dairy completely and SUPRISE! the condition improved in one day. And since than he didn't vomit and his pooping got at least normal. No more solide clothes! So, that's all about doctors. He's now 11 months old. |

Definitely switch doctors. I stuck with mine from my older daughter's birth until he retired. She had no particular health problems, he was just opinionated and kind of unpleasant, so I thought, well, maybe I'm expecting a lot from a doctor. When I got the new doctor (same practice) after the first one retired, I was AMAZED at how different the experience of going to the pediatrician could be. An unhelpful doctor is worse than just giving bad medical advice -- when your child is well they can really knock your self-confidence badly.
For the mom out there who is not getting support on your child's allergy -- Keep a log of your child's meals and health conditions (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) so you can PROVE to your doctors that you have good reason for suspecting an allergy. It took my sister-in-law 18 mos. to get an allergy diagnosis for her son, who had the same symptoms as your child. Each of the doctors you've seen has reason to think he/she is correct, but you are the only one who has seen the whole picture. I mention this in case you need some kind of medical documentation to get the soy formula covered by WIC. My nephew is now 4 1/2 and still allergic, but because he is under an allergist's care they have techniques for reviewing the allergy to determine if it's improving or getting worse (improving but has taken a lot of care). When your little guy goes to preschool it will be a much bigger issue (all the preschools my daughter has attended have the snack provided, which can be a problem for a child with an allergy), so if you can get it medically documented now it will make it much easier for you to manage as he gets older. It is also possible that your little boy is lactose intolerant rather than allergic to milk (this is my younger brother's problem), so if you can try lactose-free products (yogurt is good to try for his age) and document his reaction, that might help you manage the problems as well.
Good luck to both of you! |

I think I'll have to get her to accept the facts one way or another. I'm afraid it's milk allergy as before we started him on this milk-based formula he was eating jogurts and cottage cheese and was pooping that specific way and sometimes vomitting (but as it wasn't constant I didn't worry about that so much) so probably the problem is deaper. Anyway I give him now only soy jogurts and tofu instead of cheese and everything is fine. But You're right I need confirmation in his medical records. |

I have been through many doctors for myself and my children, because it is worth finding a good one that respects you. I know that some areas, however don't have many choices. If you are in this type of situation and have to go back to this"stupid doctor" then I would be strong and let him know that you "strongly feel that your child has...........(whatever the case may be) and that you would like him to do what you feel is necessary (antibiotics, referral, etc.) unless "he wants to be responsible for a more serious illness in your child" When you politely threaten them, they will usually respond. If you do have a choice of other doctors, politely tell me verbally or in a letter that you are firing him because he does not listen to you, respect your input and do the best job that he can to help your child and go and find another doctor. |

Amanda, I see your concern, I just need to tell you this as a mom of 3 children, kids that young don't develop sinus's till young toddler age! It's not the same for an Adult as for a kid,LOOKS the same, but here is something to keep in mind. ANYTHING VIRAL, takes 10 days to get to your system, 10 days within your system and 10 more days to leave your systemBatcterial infections antibiotics will touch, but VIRAL it will not to anything for. NOW ALLERGYS are completely different ot handle all together, under a year old Can have allergy's. Isaw tyour concern and felt i needed to ease your mind! ALways remember the 10 day rule! |

Did either Dr. you saw mention having post nasal drip, which can also make her cough, that too can be caused by allergy(season).. You can raise her head up so she's not completely flat, roll a small was cloth under her head of the padding of the bassinet,or if she's in a crib under the mattress just so it's raised a bit where her head lays, BUT that it's nowhere near her reach, just lift up the padding and not so that any of it sticks out.... .Allergys are real Big this time of year. So along with the formula advice, Hope I gave you some fresh new ideas to help.

My husband went through a second surgery to replace an infected shunt and it is the surgeon falts because he did not give us complete instructions on what steve should do my husband and the surgeon is in the san fancisco area . I would be careful for geneticist liz |

Sylvia i have 8 children and your child has an intolerance to milk big time.Do you know how dangerous it can be to keep giving your child something that he or she is allergic too?My daughter is allergic to all the milks out there.I had to have a special formula and it was 23.48 at Walmart. She is 1.5 months old now and no more WIC for that formula after 1 yr.I now have found that Walmart carries a Parent's Choice Brand that I but for 13.48.It is a brand for lactose intolerant children already broken down proteins.Thx god I was killing my child listening to the stupid doctors. My lil' girl was starting to be lethargic sleeping all the time and not eating throwing up.It was awful! When you are a mom you always always goes with your first instinct with your children.Thats why God made moms special after we have children. He gave us that 6th sense and by God you use it! |
