When is a good time to start with a sippy cup? I know it might be itoo early to even think about it, my daughter is 6 months old. But what brought it up was when she has bath time, i have a plastic cup that i use to pour water on her and she has started grabing it and holding it up to her mouth and trying to drink out of it. I don't let her get any of the water in her mouth but i do empty out the cup and let her try. Is she trying to tell me she's ready? |

It is not too early at all. When my son was 6 months, I gave him a sippy cup, with a tiny bit of water in it. I used the plain cups, not ones with a no spill spout. That way when he tipped it, he saw the water come out and then he started trying to figure out how to drink it. I just let him play with it at first. By 7 months he was drinking from it.
Let her hold a cup, with a little water in it, and play with it, and see what she does. Show her how to drink from it, by putting the spout to her mouth. But if she prefers to play, that's ok. I think introducing the cup early makes it easier later on, since they already know how to use it and it is not new. |

It isn't to early I started my daughter on a sippy cup around 4-5 months so that I could transition easily. I started with playtex soft spout because it was closest to a bottle nipple. Also it is a soother for their gums. They have handles on the side for easy holding for infants. Those only require them to know how to suck. I later purchase Nuby and they require sucking and biting down at the same time so it took her a little longer to learn how to use those. |

Six months is about the time to start with the sippy cups. I used the gerber training cups at first for my son. Then I switch to playtex for awhile. Now we are on the cups with straws and I am trying to get him to used a open cup. |

Sarah used a sippy cup at 6 months. I used the ones with hsndles.People couldnt believe she would hold it all by herself and drink from it. She would never take formula from it but would drink juice. I also think that may have helped when it was time to get rid of the bottle. She just did it herself, she wouldnt take it after 11 months. |

She can't quite hold her bottle yet, but would she be able to hold a sippy cup because of the handles? |

Hi Amanda. Mackenzie started drinking from a sippy at 5 months. We use the stage 1 (my first sippy cup) by Gerber. It has handles on the side and a soft spout. She can hold it but doesn't always tip it up! She loves it. |

She probably won't be able to hold it very well at first, but let her keep trying. Having just a little bit of water in it will help because it won't be so heavy. |

still let her practice even if she doesnt do good at first. I think you will be surprised at how well she will do.Also Sarah never held her bottle.Even after she was drinking from a cup never would hold it.I always had to hold her to give it to her, but I also think that could have helped when it was time to get off of the bottle. |

I started my son on sippy cups at 6 month. He's now 9 months old, and only has the bottle at nap time and bed time. Hope this helps!! |
