My daughter is in third grade. She has a uniform and attends the only public school that does so but we like it. My daughter is an accerated reader and accelerated in math also. I am NOT happy with the accelerated program though. In math, all she does it takes TESTS!! Nothing else! She switches every other week for reading and her homeroom teacher does a much better job than her reading teacher...LOL! My husband and I are firm believers in education so we keep on top of things and keep her challenged at home. Reading has always been a biggie with us and I have been reading to her since the day she was born! Overall, we really, really love her elementary school! We feel that she is getting a good education and she continues to be excited and loves school.

I have children, ages 3, 7 and 9. My 3 year old is in private preschool. My 7 year old is in the 2nd grade and my 9 year old in the 3rd grade, and they go to public elementary school.
We do not wear uniforms at our school. Our school is one of the top 3 schools in our county, and we like it very much. We are very pleased with our school, but of course it is a public school, and there are about a handful of things that we are not happy with.
We did look into Catholic school for next year, but the price is outrageous for 3 children, and we just can't do it.
Our children have had a positive experience in elementary school, and I am happy to say my children love their school, and overall I am very happy that I have the opportunity to send them there. There is a lot of parent involvement. |

I have 3 children and my oldest son is in 2nd grade at public shool. He hasn't had the most pleasant experience until 2nd grade. He had a speech problem and started speech therapy when he was 2. He has been behind in a few classes but we are working on those and he will be in summer school.
He was bullied from Kindergarden until 1st grade. I had called the school, the bus system and the bullies mom. I didn't get very good results anywhere. I had to go to the superintendant of schools to actually get results. As much as this school system claimed they want my child safe, they really didn't give a hoot. I then became a very nagging parent and would call the school for everything. I eventually endedup getting my son a new bus stop and his attitude has changed 100%. Thank goodness for me being a pushing mom.
I truly feel that his being behind in some of his classes is becuase of him being bullied for 2 years without the school system doing anything. BTW, I say 2 years even thought it was off and on bullying in those 2 years. |

Angie, My son has speech problems too. His m outh muscles didn't develope completely. He went to a special speech class when he was 4 yrs old.
The Drs told us, he'd catch up, they didn't understand his situation. I kept him back a yr from starting kindergarten.
It's good you are a "pushy" mom. its shows you care. |

Hi, My name is Michelle. I have two children. My son is in the third grade and attends public school. For the most part he has had a good experience with school. There has been the occasional being picked on my another child, but a child that picks on everybody not jut my child. So we've been able to smooth it over with my son that it's not about him, it's about the kid who's doing the picking. My daughter just had her interview for pre-k yesterday. We will find in the middle to end of July if she gets in or not. It's the same school her brother goes to. The pre-k program is a full day and she'd be riding the bus. She is ready for school and really wants to go. It was a little slap of reality for me that my baby is growing up.

My daughter is in the third grade, my son will be starting pre school this next year at the age of 4. My daughter attend a public school. She to has had problems with kids picking on her, I have gone up and made a very big deal with the school they do act upon it. But that was only because this kid laid hands on her. The stuff that is really affecting her is the emotional stuff. the words that the kids say to her. I also had to go up and make a really big stink about her second grade teacher there was alot of issues behind that. I am very unhappy with this public school. I would really like to get her into a private school although I to am faced with the cost. I just keep looking into possibilities and hopefully something will come together. |
