Fit mom bites the dust
I was so healthy up until I gave birth. I was exercising up until month 8 of my pregnancy. 10 months into mommyhood, and I am barely working out at all. I am ready to return to my fit self, but how? I am a working mom with an erratic schedule. My husband works full time, too. It seems all I have time for is parenting and work. I feel gross, though, I am someone who is used to working out most days of the week. Lately I am down to once a week! Any advice/empathy is welcome!

Robin,

i know how you feel. when i had my kids it was hard losing the weight but i did. somehow over time your metabolism does change back! it is hard being in that place especially if you see moms who bounce back naturally like magic. but it does pass. the key is when you hit your 40's things change that are not apparant on the outside. this is where i am at. people i meet think i am in such good shape, look like i am 32 but it is not the case and now is when exercise becomes critical for other things and not just appearance (which is understandibly important to a new mom with a different body, i know!).

so i hope you find your way back when you are ready. it sounds like you have time before you become an old lady like me (hahaha)

i guess i am learning the hard way, but it is like a car, we have to run it to keep it alive, we have to service it and so forth before it becomes one beat up jalopy.

Hi Robin,
I am still pregnant with my first child, due in January (or it may be earlier). I, too, was exercising regularly during pregnancy but was just told to stop because we have low amniotic fluid and it may not be best for the baby (which is why we may need to deliver early). I feel flabby and hate that I can't work out now. And, after the baby is here I PRAY I will be able to find time to exercise. Working f/t is hard, especially out of the home. I do that now, but will not be returning to my f/t job after the baby is born (I started working from home) so that will hopefully enable me to find time to exercise throughout the day.

But, for you, just know that time and circumstances will change and you will get time to exercise again. I think it's excellent that you are doing one day a week to keep yourself in the habit. All too often people stop totally and it's even harder to get back to it. Your body will remember, too, what shape you were in so whenever you do get back to it "full force" your body will bounce back quicker, I'm sure.

Best of luck to you and I hope you get to where you want to be soon! But, just keep in mind the reason you gained the weight wasn't because you are lazy, but because you gave birth to a beautiful baby! That is the best reason, although I know not so much of a consolation right now. But, since I tried to conceive for 5 year's before we were successful (without medical intervention, but other healthier methods), I am grateful to just BE pregnant and to be expecting our bundle in a few weeks!

I hope this helped, if only a little!
Linda
