Any advise on how to keep my son (7months old) from always wanting to roll over during diaper changes? I have the changing pad with the strap, try to keep my arm on his belly, and distract him with a toy but he wont stay still. Diaper changes are becoming 20-minute wrestling mathces! |

Hi Lauren, I am still going through this. I have put her changing table away from anything she might want to grab. I usually give her a diaper, or something to hold and talk to her like she is helping. After a while you will be able to change them really fast, lol. Is your changing pad the curved kind? That helped me a lot too. |

I was having the same problem (can't remember when it started) but I started saying the same thing every time I changed him: Diaper goes under, diaper goes up, and one and two (for the two tabs). I change him on the floor... got too nervous having him up on a changing table. After repeating it so many times, he knows that he needs to hold still long enough for me to say those things. And, if he starts to move before then, I just say, "Diaper goes under" (in my mom voice) and, he usually stops long enough for me to finish. I don't know if this will work for you, but it's the trick that keeps my little guy there long enough to get a diaper on. |

Meg, I love your little diaper mantra! I am totally using it. My 10 month old not only squirms but runs away. It is really cute, unless I am in a hurry, or he had a poopy diaper. |

Hi Robin... hope it works for you too! Snapping his shirt and putting on pants or shorts is still somewhat of a battle, but it's a start. :) |

Yes, I'm having the same problem too! This works somewhat for us: I change my son on the floor too. I've been letting him hold the "butt paste" tube, but he figured out how to open the top and now he trys to eat it. So, giving them something to holsd works if their interested in it. After getting him all cleaned up and the diaper on, I say, "All done" and I sign it too. That's his cue to get up. Any other mothers using baby sign language? |

Having something hanging over the changing table to catch his interest can help. I usually sing to my son. He still does this at almost 13 months! It is a struggle every time I change him. I give him a toy, one that he doesn't see very often, so he is more interested, sing, and move as fast as possible. I have everything ready before I start, new diaper opened up, and wipes pulled out of the container. Then I just go. Sometimes I just hold him there and he cries, but it's faster that way, and as soon as I am done I let him get up and he is happy as can be. He would just rather be playing and moving than lying still. |

It has to be a rite of passage for all 7 month olds. My son is doing the exact same thing and I just stopped using the changing table. We play out in the living room all the time, so I just keep a couple of diapers and his wipes out there and I change him in the middle of the floor. For some reason, he doesn't seem to squirm as much on the floor as he does on the changing table. Plus it's a shorter process since we don't have to go into the other room to get it done. |

Jodi, Yeah, all bets are off for you for a couple months. I didn't realize that once my baby hit 7 months the changing table would be just another piece of furniture! But up until then, it is all about how fast can you put that diaper on. Now that he is crawling, the challenge is catching his naked butt before he messes up the carpet, or his socks, or my clothes... Ugh! |

I feel your pain on this one :-) My 8 month old daughter does the same thing...plus she likes to turn over on the table. So I have learned that her favorite song is now Twinkle Twinkle Little Star so I just sing that to her when she starts to get restless. |
