Hi Jackie, How are you doing? I have the Eddie Bauer convertible car seat. (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2580981) I really like it and Emilie is very comfortable in it. I had to put her face forward at about 7 months, she was over 20 lbs and could hold her head up with no problem. This can face the back too. |

Jackie - You have Emilie forward facing at 7 months? I thought infants weren't suppose to go forward-facing until they were 20lbs and 12 months old? Do I have misinformation? |

Check in your state, it could be different. She was too long to face the back, her feet were up against the seat. I had read that as long as they were 20lbs or over one year they could face forward. She also was able to hold her head up with no problem so I wasnt worried. My only problem is there is a lump in the middle of my backseat so I have to put the car seat on the side (passenger), I would rather she be in the middle. |

My daughter is very long and for a while I was worried that she wasn't very confortable with the rear facing car seat. However, I was waery also because she had to be in a rear carseat until 1. I didn't end up purchasing a new carseat until 2 weeks before her first birthday. I chose the high back eddie bauer seat. I think it would be best for you to purchase one that will be able to grow with your son. That way you don't end up spending money now and then again in a few months. You don't have to spend a lot of money you can always look around for a sale. My husband and I got our two foraward facing carseats (eddie bauer) for $80. Keep a look out. Also I would check with your state and your doctor to see how he/she feels about it as well as what the law is. Good luck. |

I actually returned the Eddie Bauer I purchased and ended up buying a Britax and love it. I went online to the toysrus.com website and read the reviews from other parents. I also spoke to a couple friends and they both ended up with a Britax. They are a little more pricey, but it is so easy to install and strap my son in. He is also very comfortable in it.
As for the forward facing vs. rear facing. My 13 month old son is still rear facing. His peditrician recommended that you keep them rear facing for as long as possible, even though legally I could turn him around. She said it is still safest to rear face. |

I wanted to have 2 car seats so my husband and I wouldn't have to move the seat depending on what car we took. We ended up buying a Britax Marathon. We really like it. We kind of bought it based upon feedback of a woman in Babies R Us. She was looking for a seat for her toddler and we asked her what she liked. She mentioned the Britax and it was her 2nd one that she was buying (she had 3 kids). She said she tried the Eddie Bauer (that was the one we were looking at) and returned it. The only thing that my husband and I have found is that the 1st height level for the straps is quite high so you'll want to make sure that your will fit properly. Regarding on front or back facing, each state requirements are different, but my husband and I went to a child seat safety class and they recommend keeping your child rear facing for as long as possible (ideally to 18 months). They realize that it may not be practicle, but in regards to safety having your child face the rear is the best position in the event of an accident. Happy shopping. |

the britax marathon is the best. It is a little bit pricey but well worth it. It will hold your child up to 70 lbs |

We've done some shopping and we have three models we're looking at. We did look at the Britax line, but we really don't have the money to spend that much on a car seat. Here are the three we're looking at. Has anyone heard anything about these? All are convertible seats. * Evenflo - Titan Elite * Graco - ComfortSport * Evenflo - Tribute |

Oh, by the way, the only good reviews I've seen for the Eddie Bauer line were the ones made here. |

I personally would not buy anything from Evenflo, I have nothing but problems with all items I have of theirs (I have also seen many recalls on their products as well.) The infant carrier I had was from Graco (snugride) and I really liked the quality of their products. |

Check out producrt review websites such as buzzilions.com or pricegrabber.com or epinions.com. You want to do your homework before you buy a carseat. |

Hi jaxon, This is a link to the kind fo carseat i have. http://www.gracobaby.com/catalog/product.aspx?modelNumber=8C00LNW2&CategoryID=1
i love this carseat, it is rear facing now and can be turned forward facing when katie is old enough. My daughter is also very long and the first time she rode in this carseat she slept the whole 3 hour drive, it's so comfortable for her. |

I have a Britax in both vehicles, we love it, definelty recommend spending the little extra money; shop around we got mine on Ebay about $70 less than at retail stores. As far as the age when putting forward facing, my peditrician said they have to be atleast 1 but also they have to have the storng neck muscles. My son is very tall and long for his age I used to also think he was unconfortable with his legs ben t up when rear facing, but she said its safer than putting him forward facing and get in a accident and severally hurt him.
Good luck with the search. I do highly recommend the Britax the only down fall is they are big, they dont fit very well into small cars, they go great in SUVs or Vans which we have. Rita |

Hi, we bought one that is rear-facing and then forward facing for when he gets older. It holds up to 40 pounds. We looked hard at the all the other seats that will last a little longer with growth, but decided against it. I have 5 nephews that are all out of car seats and every one of them by 40 pounds did not want a high back seat because it made them feel like a baby and they were teased at school. Their parents had a terrible time getting them in their seatbelts until they switched to the boosters. That's why we chose to go with the lighter weight limit knowing we would probably be getting another car seat-booster before he reaches the limits. One sister in Kansas said they changed it to 7 years old! Imagine him sitting in a highback at 6 1/2??? It would never happen. If you go with one that works for larger children, check out the ones that convert into a booster. |
