Cereal
Now im just wondering how many of you moms started there babies on cereal as of 2 months old i have cause madison my lil girl seemed unfullfilled after her formula feeding so i added a tablespoon of cereal in the morning and night. My mom also fed all 3 of her babies cereal at 2 months to help us sleep better madison has always been a good sleeper she just seemed like she wanted more. Now after her cereal she takes a good nap and isnt as fussy. Also she has had to push pretty hard to poop since she was born i was wondering if anyone knows of any fruits or veggies i can add a lil to her cereal to help her have a little less of a struggle naturally i dont like to run for meds first..Thanks moms. Please if you dont agree with my cereal feeding try not to judge its what has worked for my girl and actually ive spoken to alot of moms that have started cereal earlier than they say to..Thanks everyone have a great day..

A friend of mine is going through a similar situation. Her little girl is only 3 1/2 months old and has been suffering from constipation. Her pediatrician recommended feeding her peaches to help relieve it.

I started my daughter on cereal between 2 and three months. be careful with the fruits because of allergies. you will probably be better off giving your baby a little bit of pear or apple juice to help with the constipation. You should also water the juice down. Good Luck

My daughter has always had problems going to the bathroom. She is on soy and it is constipating. The doctor told me that she could have 2 tsp. of mollases diluted in 2 oz of water twice a day. I have noticed that it takes a day for that to work. Talk to your doctor first about the mollasses to make sure she is ok to have that. I have also done the pear or prune juice diluted. That works almost immediately. And lastly a trick that has been passed down that I have done and works immediately is when she is actively pushing to get one out and she is struggling, take a sliver of ivory soap and use it as a suppository. It works immediately. I guess it stimulates them to poop and lubricates as well. I have been carrying ivory soap around in my diaper bag because she is always constpated. Good luck. Oh Jessy is 7 mos, corrected age of 4 mos. (preemie) so ask your doctor before doing the mollasses to make sure yours is old enough.I use the mollasses every night before she goes to bed in her bottle of formula so that in the morning she will poop normal. Good Luck.

I started my daughter on cereal in her bottles at about 2 months because of her acid reflux.

Hi jodi,
I would maybe try juice at half concentration, what worked for katie at that age ( i started her on cereal early too) was 2 oz apple prune juice with 2 oz water. I wouldnt' let her go crazy on it all at once, maybe an ounce every couple of hours. And that seemed to loosen her up pretty quickly. I would stay away from peaches tho, they can cause serious diaper rash becuase of the acid, and can be very hard on the stomach. If that doesn't work just try some plain extra water. I don't like to reach for the meds either and this is what i've found to help with constipation.

k thanks amanda i just bought her prune baby food and mixed a teaspoon in with her cereal do you think thats enough or should i put more in or should i go for the prune juice?

Hi Jodi,
My daughter was also very constipated when she was that age. I would use 1 oz prune juice and 3 oz water (she would only drink about an once). I would also just let her lay on the changing table with her diaper open, for some reason this was the only way she would go. I would also use oatmeal cereal, since rice cereal and bananas would only bind her up. I have also heard a warm bath helps to relax them so they will go.

The oatmeal cereal it isnt chunky is it cause i will definitely try it..but yea im going to get the prune juice..

It's not chunky, it is in the baby isle with the other cereals. I mix it with water or formula/milk. At first I would make it runny, now she eats it thick. I noticed that the gerber brand in the canster with DHA is a lot smoother. As she gets older you can mix fruits and veggies in too.

I forget that when Emilie gets constipated I would also put some vasilene om a q-tip and put it on her butt (I was never comfortable to put it inside just on the outside). This helps too.
