I really have a problem with school who expect a kindergartner to sit down 6 hours a day!
The academic requirments are increasing at the expenses of what a body who is growing needs.
Few monthes ago there was an article on Newsweek talking about the fact that girls are doing better than boys at school because the expectation of behavior and discipline are modeled more on girls behavior.
Boys get reprimanded more and they feel totally trapped in their chair.
Until less than 20 years ago Kindergartner was mostly playing and socializing now it is real school work, who said that over 20 years the need of the kids have changed so much?
My answer to your question is not why your boy can't not sit , it is why does he have to sit soooooooo much. The only solution I can find is to make him do as much physical activity as possible after school and insist with the school that they do not skip recess becasue there are three drops of rain!

Teacher told me that my son in K does not pay attention some of the times during a lesson. I think sometimes they have to sit and listen for so long to directions that all they want to do is socialize. I feel for my son because he is doing so good with reading but that is not looked at as the big thing. His ability to sit quietly at school and for 30 minutes on the bus which is a whole other story.
