Hi Everybody,
I was just wondering (and I know everyone's body is different) when will this post-pregnancy pouch go away?! I am so tired of wearing maternity pants. I don't yet fit into my pre-pregnancy pants and can't buy any new ones b/c my body is still changing. I'm almost 3 mo. post pardum. It seemed like it was shrinking fast at first, now it seems to have stalled. I was in shape before I got pregnant and did a lot of walking while I was. Any predictions or similar moans and groans would be appreciated. |

It takes some time. Especially the tummy area. I started jogging again at around three months (stopped completely when pregnant, which was not smart). That helped. Also, started using a Russian kettlebell, which is great for toning and doesn't take much time to use to target the butt/legs and arms (maybe 10-15 minutes every other day). Nursing helps as well (I'm still nursing). My son is 11 months now, and what really gave me back my pre-baby body was switching to the Paleo diet as advocated by Loren Cordain. I was a vegetarian for close to 20 years, and the switch took some getting used to, but all my bloated stomach area is gone, and I look better now than I ever have (even according to my DH). So, anyway, three months is too soon to expect miracles, but keep up with exercising and eating well, and it will happen. Nine months on and nine months off! |

Lisa, I know how you feel. My stomach still looked like I was pregnant until my son turned a year old. He is 15 months now and I am so relieved that I have had my pre-preganancy body back for the last 3 months. To lose it, I cut my calories down to 1200 a day and then really started losing the weight. I finally feel attractive again. Then, there's a friend of mine who's baby is about 2 months old and her belly is almost completely gone. I guess it is different for everyone. Best wishes to you. |

I have been struggling with that as well and while I really didn't try very hard at first I sucked it up and bought two pair of pants for the 2 sizes bigger than I was pre-pregnancy and have started taking a pilates class. I walked a lot while pregnant, which was easy to do living in NYC, but now that we are in Maine, walking isn't a necessity anymore so I have found pilates to be very helpful. I still am not fitting into my pre-pregnancy pants, but I'm on my way and feeling better about my body just being out of my maternity pants! |

Hi lisa, ahh the infamous pancake belly! I'm almost 6 months post pregnancy and i still have some of my belly, but i also had a c-section so i had to wait for my muscles to grow back together before i could really start doing anything. I put on a lot of weight in the last few months of pregnancy becuase of bed-rest and sleep eating(that also explained the hearburn lol). Most of what i have left is just seriously stretched out belly skin. i lost most of the excess weight in the first 2 months and i lost it really fast and now the rest is slooooowly coming off. I also have a lot of stretched out skin as well and I take vitamin E for that and it seems to be helping. Everyone is different, and no one loses pregnancy weight the same. Just give it time, like one of the other ladies said, "nine months on, nine months off", and don't get down on yourself if your not in your pre-pregnancy jeans just yet, it's ok you just had a baby!! |

My biggest problem is that I don't know if it is ok for me to cut back my caloric intake because I'm still breast feeding. My son is almost six months old and I am back and work and hanging on to breastfeeding. I'd really like to breast feed for a year if possible becasue I feel like that's the ONE thing tha I can do if I can't be at home with him.
What do you guys think? Is it ok to cut back on calories as long as the calories that you are eating are good calories (by that I mean healthy)?
I can deal with the extra weight until after we're done breast feeding. Now that I've written that, it really does sound silly. Any thoughts out there? |

My son is almost three months and I have not lost all my weight either. I have about 25lbs to go... its very sad. I gained 60lbs my pregnancy and I lost the first 30 in like the first two weeks now I can't seem to get any off.
So I understand where you are coming from... but like everyone tells me its only been 3 months and YOU JUST HAD A BABY!!! |

Hi everybody, I gained 60 lb.s while I was pregnant. My son is now 3 months old and I still have 30 lb.s that I want to lose, but even 20 would be great. I lost 30 within the first week of having him, probably partly due to the fact that I was breastfeeding at that time. I also had a c-section, so couldn't get into exercising as soon as I had wanted to, however I am fully recovered now and never seem to have the time- just make up a lot of excuses. It absolutely kills me to see pictures of me from just last summer. I had never thought of myself as being skinny before, but now when I look at my tiny old clothes and see old pic.s I think, damn, I really was skinny. I do work as a server 3 nights a week and always stay busy, but I really think that my metabolism has changed. I could eat whatever I wanted before and not worry a bit. Another thing that really bothers me is that my skin has been breaking out like crazy since about 3 weeks after my son was born - has anyone else had this problem? Whenever I complain about the way that I look people tell me, "the baby is worth it, isn't he?". My son is for sure worth it, but it would also be nice to look like myself again. |
