Hello! I was just talking with a co-worker and her pedi had told her that once she started her little girl on fruits and veggies, there was no need to continue with cereal. (Her baby is almost 6 months) I have a 9 month old son and am still giving him cereal---I thought it was necessary for the iron and other vitamins........ Anyone know when you can stop cereal or if the fuits/veggies have enough nutrition without giving cereal? Thanks! |

What kind of cereal are you giving him? I still give my 7 month old oatmeal cereal. I actually still mix it in with the fruits and veggies just so there is a thicker consistency. Some of those solids are really runny. Even the stage 2 foods. |

HI Jacquelyn, I still give my daughter cereal, she is 13 months. She likes it and some mornings it is just quicker to get ready. If your son is still on breastmilk/formula he should be getting the iron and vitamins he needs. My ped prescribed vitamins when my daughter started on fruits and veggies just to be sure, but since she was still drinking formula I wasn't worried.

I give my son oatmeal and rice cereals in the mornings with his fruit and a bottle of breastmilk.....I just thought it was weird that her pedi told her that because I had never heard or read to stop cereal once they start solids.... |

I dont think u should feel u neeed a set time to stop cereal at all. If he likes it just continue. But also start him on veggies and soon meats. My sin is 2 1/2 he wont drink milk in the cup so too make sure he gets extra calcium I give him a big bowl of Oatmeal every morning and he likes it. So why not ?? it is nutritious .... dont dought yourself u are doing well. |

Hi jacquelyn, what one dr. says for one of his patients he may tell the complete opposite to another. If your son still likes the cereal then give it too him, it's not gonna hurt. |

hi,
my son is 8 months and I give him rice cereal or the oatmeal and mix in pears or applesauce for breakfast every morning...and give him 4 oz's of different juices. He loves it and its the one meal I can guarantee he will eat. |
