Hi, It's good to be here. I am new to homeschooling. She was in K last year. Started her out in ps, but that didn't work out. So now here I am again this year. But i feel this is whats best for her. Kinda doing the electic thing right now.She has Tourettes,ADHD and some dyslexia. So I'm checking out a lot of sites and forums on these topics as well. Shes soon to be evaluated professionally to see just where shes at wiht her disabilities. Thanx, Looking to learn more..Lynne

Your daughter is so blessed to have a mom who acknowledges and is willing to work around her special challenges!

Eclectic is the way I go with my kids - and I'm learning that planning way ahead doesn't work for us, because one of us will want to do something different. For instance, in the last three days my daughter has suddenly developed intense interests in "chemistry" and learning the guitar. So I'm letting her home ec slide and replacing it with those two.

I totally agree. I think that it's very important to be flexible. This I feel is a major stress causer among ps school children. Especially the younger ones. I know that routine and schedules are important, but You know having a class of 25 or so, you have to have them trained like robots to keep order. This has got to be stressful to the little ones. So it works much better with my kid to be as flexible as I can.....

Welcome to the group Lynne. That is awsome that you are going to homeschool your daughter. Lucky her to have a mom like you. Flexable is best for our family too. We do schedual things (not in very much advance but still) but it isn't set in stone and we change it around whenever we need too. Good luck on your first year of homeschooling. I think you will do well with your attitude about doing things flexably. My first year of homeschooling was rough on me. I literally tried to do school at home. Which I really didn't realize I was doing. I am now in my third year of homeschooling and it's gotten a lot smoother and calmer around here LOL. Feel free to ask any questions you might have or even suggest something that is working for you!!

Hi Lynne!
I have a son that is ADHD, been diagnosed with a form of Tourettes, and is also OCD (obsessive/compulsive) and ODD (oppositionaldefiant)! He was diagnosed at the age of 3 when he almost got kicked out of preschool! He is almost 16 now and he is starting to show signs of growing out of some of it. But, it has been a very long journey with him. I was ADHD when I was young and still struggle with a few ADD tendencies.

I applaud you for starting your little girl out in homeschooling. I wish I had known more about it and had the courage and faith in myself to do that!! If you ever need anything...just let me know!

Thanks Crystal, Exactly wha t you just said is entirely what our doctors have told us.That it's going to be a long road, but she may and can get better in time. Whats amazing is that people look at her and comment,[ well I don't see anything wrong with her. She acts normal to me.] They do not under stand the disease of tourettes and all that it curtails and includes. My hubbies family is constantly dogging us about the homeschooling. With her ocd, she also has eating disorders, too.In april she lost 22lbs. Had she not been chubby, we would have really been in trouble. I am sure I will need all the advice i can get from everyone here. Somedays are really a challenge. But I have confidence that she and I can get this done.....Toodles.....Lynne
