Flu Shot

My son is 8 months old and my Doctor wants him to get a flu shot, I am weary about it though and was looking for some input? I had it once and it made me sick. Have any of you got the flu shot for your lil one and if so how did they react?

Just last week I took my 8 month old son to the doctor. She recommended him getting the flu shot, so we did it. He didn't have any reaction to it. He didn't even cry when they put the needle/medicine in him. My 22 month old had also received his first flu shot when he was 9 months old and didn't have a reaction to it. When I get the flu shot, I get sick, not sure why or how that happens so I guess it all depends on the person. Thats what it seems though. Hopefully someone else can give you some more insight but my 8 month old did not get sick. :)

My son is now 2, and we have done the flu shot. He's never had a reaction... I did get sick from it one year, but not the others. Maybe it depends on the strain they're vaccinating for? Or if our resistance was down when we got the flu shot? Not sure, but it's never been a problem for the little guy. Beyond the poke with the needle, that is...

My son is 9 and has had one every year for the last 4 years. I have them too. We haven't gotten sick. But everyone is different. I did have him get the flu mist though. He really fights a needle.

My personal opinion is that we vaccinate too much. There are so many strains of the same virus out there that it is highly unlikely a shot alone will prevent all. My 11 mth old son won't have it for this reason and also because I think that allowing the developing immune system to naturally fight things will strengthen, not weaken, our new generation. The drug companies are more than happy to have everyone vaccinated regulary! Just my 2 cents. Take it or leave it, I guess.

My 6 month old just got his first shot of the flu series and goes back next month for the second and no reaction

Thank you all for advice. I decided to go ahead with the flu shot, because my husband is a firefighter/emt and is exposed to it all season, I figured my son has a higher chance of getting it. It went well, we go back for the second one in Dec.

My 17 month old had his flu shots this year, and he was fine. I had mine as well, and was fine also. :)
