Flu Shot

My son is 8 months old and my Doctor wants him to get a flu shot, I am weary about it though and was looking for some input? I had it once and it made me sick. Have any of you got the flu shot for your lil one and if so how did they react?

Does your son spend much time with other or older kids? If not, I might consider skipping it this year, if it will give you peace of mind. One thing that might help is to know that they give the little ones 2 smaller doses a month apart, which should help prevent them from getting sick from the shot. I've usually heard that it's very difficult to tell if you got sick because of the shot or if you were already exposed to the infection at the time that you got the shot. I have gotten the shots for my kids every year with no problems. Their reactions have been no different from any other vaccination.

My little guy got the vaccination and was just fine. I've also had a flu shot several times and had no reactions. Immunizations are so controversial these days, but keep in mind, a small reaction is a lot easier and safer to deal with than the flu, which can be especially hard on babies. Good luck in deciding and go with what you feel is right for your family!

My daughter just got her first flu shot this month and she had a small reaction to it. She had a fever and she threw up. Our pediatrician just told us to get her some motrin since she is now able to take it at 1. Children are able to get it from 6 months and up. If you do plan on getting the shot for your son try and give him some medicine 3 minutes before his appointment and then after to help. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I get the flu shot every year for the past 10 years because I have asthma. I have never had a reaction to it. My son is now 18 months old. Last year was his first flu shot and he also had no reaction to it. The flu shot can't make you sick. If your resistance is down because you may be coming down with something before getting it, then you have a chance of getting sick, but you were probably bound to get that cold anyway.
