Taking
My son is 20 months and besides mama, dada, and hi he doesn't say any other words. We communicate really well and he understands what I'm saying but won't talk "real"words. He does speak alot of gibberish. I'm sure his doctor will have him go to speach intervention. Has anyone else gone through this and if so what was your childs outcome. Thanks

I have never experienced this both of my girls are very verbal but some boys aren't. I have a friend whose son is a year older than my youngest and by eight months her vocabulary was bigger than his. I talk to my girls none stop and if they mispronounce a word I have them watch my mouth as I say it then say it again. I will do this over and over until they get it right. My friends son all the sudden started talking. He was just taking it all in because when he started it wasn't just one word, it was phrases. He was almost two before he started really talking. Try to get him to say what he wants before you give it to him.

Hi Cheryl. My daughter is 21 months old & she only says a few words as well. Most of what she says is also gibberish but I haven't been too concerned about it. I thought it was a normal part of development, at least that's what I'm hoping!
