People are getting so rogue-ish! A friend of mine got a letter in the mail the other day. With the letter was a cashier's check for $2000 and something. Her instructions were to cash or deposit the check, then go to Wal-Mart and money-gram a certain amount back to the company in Vancouver and fill out a questionnaire on how the money-gram person did their job. She would get to keep $300 as her payment. The letterhead said Secret Shoppers and the name on the check was Linda Flemmington. It all looked fairly legit, but the payment did seem kinda high. So we googled "Secret Shoppers, Linda Flemmington, Canada". Whoa! Seems that this little lady has been busy! Several people (and by several I mean A BUNCH!) have already fallen for this. The article said that the checks all have the same check number and we checked my friend's and, sure 'nuf, same check number. So we called the cops and gave the check and the letter to them. The check is FAKE. When you cash it and send the money to them, you're basically giving them $2000. Now, I realize that most of us are pretty savvy about this kinda thing by now, but like I said, it all LOOKED legit. So, anything you get like this, please, check it out!! |
