Hi everybody. I am feeling better now that my daughter isn't feeling sick anymore. My husband and I decided to have her receieve the first of two flu shots on her 1 year visit. My daughter is usually very easy going when it comes to shots. However, as I said she had received the flu shot for the first time. She was alright for the early part of the afternoon, and I had given her some tylenol. Unfortunately about 1/2 the day went by and she started showing signs of being sleepy and uncomfortable. She later started a fever at 100.9 and then about 15 minutes later I gave her some pedia care medicine, and not more than 30 minutes later she threw everything up. I felt so bad for her after she threw up she was shacking as I usually do after I puke. I am debating on whether or not I should let her get the second shot or not. I guess what I am asking is what all of you think about it. My husband is also weary as we were both weary in the first place because we usually get the flu when we get those shots. Thanks for listening. |

I wouldn't suggest getting anymore of the shots. My husband and I personally don't get our daughter any vaccinations. We researched this to the fullest and agreed that it isn't worth the risk. Hope she feels better!!! |

I agree with Kelly. I also do not get vaccines for my daughter, I dont believe they do any good. I know so many people to have bad reactions from the flu shot (and others). I hope your little one feels better soon. |

By not vaccinating your child you are putting her at risk for all kinds of things. Unfortunately there is a new wave of parents that think that vaccines are bad but if you read the medical/pediatric journals there has been outbreaks of all kinds of things simply because kids are not vaccinated and they expose everyone around them. When it comes to the second flu shot, I agree with you, I personally would not give it to my child. However I get a flu shot every year and I've never been sick from it, I even had it when I was pregnant. |

I agree with Esther on vaccinations, but it is every parent's choice. In Indiana you have to have your vaccinations to go to school. As far as the flu shot goes, it does not give you the flu. The virus that is in the flu shot is not a live virus. Your daughter either already had a flu virus and getting a shot brought it to the surface (my daughter occationally runs a fever after getting her shots) or your daughter could have an allergy to eggs which is a major factor when getting the flu shot. I would be leary of taking her in for the second phase because of the egg thing. Have you talked to your doctor about her reaction? |

Ladies, I am going to respond, but PLEASE do not feel as if I am pushing my personal views on anyone. First, there are exceptions in all states for kids to go to school without having vaccines. Second, I do not feel that my child is at anymore risk then one that has been vaccinated. These are virus they are giving, some live and some not. The is no 100% guarantee that your child wont get anything. If you ask any dr they will tell you that viruses can not be killed. Third, I was born in 1970 and there weren't too many vaccines (there are 94 now) and when my parents were born (1940's) there weren’t any. We are all healthy. Yes, there is a chance that we can get sick, but with treating any cold/virus we will be ok. Here are a couple of web-sites that I get info from.

Thank you everybody for your responses. I am a firm believer in getting my daughter vacinated. I myself was born in the 80's and was vacinated then. I was also in the military and we receieved every shot for our protection. I am just weary about her having the same reaction next time. A couple that I know said that next time I should try and give rher medicine before her appointment and then after. My daughter doesn't have any allergies that I know of she has been eating eggs since she was about 8 months old. I as a first time parent called our pediatrcian as soon as she had vommited. All she recoomend was that I giver her some motrin and plenty of fluids. I am lucky enough that she doesn't have me rush to the hospital every time I call her. I don't know what I am going to do I have plenty of time between now and then to decide. (a month) Thank you again everybody. I really appreciate it. |
