My 5 month old has an icky head cold. Sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and so on. Whats the best way to make her feel better. I've raised the head of her bed, and give her a warm bath at night but she's so miserable. she usually sleeps through the night (sometimes wakes up at 330 for 4 oz then goes right back to sleep) but last night she was up most of the night. I'm so leary of giving those infant cold medicines becuase of some of the side effects. Any ideas?: I tried a cool mist vaporizer and that seemed to make it worse. |

Check with your ped before you give any cold medicne. Emilie gets congested when her teeth come in so mine said it was ok to use, I have only used it a couple of times at night to help her sleep and much less then the package said for her weight. I use a vaporizer too but it is warm. You may want to try running the hot water in the shower and sitting in there with her, it might help. I also keep salene spray (little noses brand) this helps too. |

I would definitely NOT give cold medicine. Try propping her mattress up with a pillow under it so she is not laying flat, that may help her sleep. Ask her pediatrician about Vicks Vaporub, that helps clear up congestion. It is tough when babies are sick because it's hard to see them miserable and not know what to do to help. Maybe also some water in her bottle. The good news is these things usually pass quickly- within a day or two. |

I would call your pedi and check with them. Maybe give some tylenol for comfort. Srah slept in her swing until she was 4 months old anytime she had a cold. I dont the developments of your child but you would know if they may be able to do that. We had a sleepless night last week when Sarah gotr a cold. She is 20 months old. The first day or two is usually the worst. Sarah's pedi also says that if it last for more than 7 days it is usually then a sinus infection and would need an antibiotic.Trying the warm shower might help since it is warm and not cool. Let us know how things go. Hope your child feels better soon. |

I use a combination of the saline nose drops, vicks vapor rub, the suda-care plug ins near the crib, and the vicks baby bath before bedtime. I would definitely not give her cold medicine, not only did this only ever make my kids more fussy (with NO relief), there are some very new warnings out against giving babies under 2 any cold medicine, even those formulated for them. You might also give her a little bit of baby tylenol, just the tylenol, since she could also have a headache from the sinus pressure. Also making sure she is extra hydrated will help a lot.
It is so hard to see these tiny ones uncomfortable! Good luck, and hope it doesn't last long. |

well i talked to my pedi today and get this she recommended dimatap!! 1/2 tsp every 4 hours. I"m so concerned with trying this stuff but poor katie hasn't really slept well in the last 3 days. I gave it to her this afternoon and her nose is starting to dry up. It's not really having any side affects so far, she's not jittery nor does it make her sleep. She's still cranky but was feeling much better this afternoon. |

If you are concerned maybe just use it at night to help her sleep better. It sounds like a little head cold and hopefully will clear up in a couple of days. |
