Hello, My daughter is almost 8 months old and very active! She constantly needs to be entertained. The moment I take a little break she starts to fuss. By the middle of the day I've run out of things to do and play with. Does anyone know of anything fun that baby and me can do? Or anything that will keep her interest when she plays alone. Thanks for your suggestions! Jennie |

my DD loves loves coke bottles. We take them and fill them with various things. From sand to beans. Anything that will make a different sound and weight to the bottles. These entertain her for hours on end. As well as they are cheap to make *bonus* Just make double sure you secure the caps on as tight as possible and do not make them to heavy for your wee one to handle.
My Monkey loves to play by herself so much so that sometimes you have to look around to make sure she is okay. At 11 months old I keep wondering what is going through her little noggin. She chatters almost constantly!
Oh she also loves books. I try and keep a few down always for her. Especially the cloth ones. She has one that is Christmasy that has all kinds of textures in it as well as pages that crinkle. I am sure you thought of books though so that may not be a suggestion you can use :)
As far as tv or dvds I am of no help there mine is not allowed to watch any just yet. Her dad has ADD so we have concerns about her getting hooked on tv to early and it having an affect on her learning ability later on in life.
Have you thought about arranging play dates? She may be young but at least she would have someone other than you to focus on for a little bit. Mine has an older cousin *4 years* that while she doesn't play play with her she does enjoy watching her every move and sometimes even tries to imitate what the older cousin is doing.
those are just my 2 cents :) |

Hi Jennie! I'm not the best at those as I try to spend as much time as possible out of the house doing different things and it works great. I have very active and mobile 10 months old baby and spending more than one day totally at home with him is out of the question. He wants to crawl as much as possible and our place isn't baby-prooved yet, grin. But when we are at home I move him every half an hour or so from place to place and he has diferent toys in each one: his room with foam floors and gate in doorframe, playard in the middle of the kitchen, walker, and of course "on the loose" (last one means my keeping an eye on him constantly, very tireing). In the kitchen there is a corner where I usually keep stuff like full water bottles, cans with powdered stuff etc and he loves to play with those. You can create place like that and change stuff held there every few days. Closed cans with some powder (like formula, Slim Fast etc), boxes, plastic bowls etc. I don't know where do You live. I live in NYC and we do have here tones of activities for babies so I spend almost every day doing something interesting. This way he isn't bored, gets a lot of fun and spends a lot of time with other babies. The things we do is going to swimming pool, going to classes at Gymboree as well as playgym times there, going for Mothers' Groups (there are places like Ys, YMCAs, Realbirth centers etc) where moms socialize and exchange and babies interacts and play, going to as many demos and trial classes as possible (this way withouth signing up You get a lot to do, music classes, gym classes etc), there are also organizations like Baby Bites NYC and Big City Moms and they organize lunches and other things, libraries have programms for babies, museums as well, You can go to bookstores, and there are playgroups an meet ups. If You aren't living in deep country or so, I would encourage You to go to places like that as much as possible. Good luck. Sylwia |
