MY SON BRENNYN IS 18 MONTHS OLD...HE CAN SAY SOME WORDS OR LET ME KNOW WHAT HE WANTS.ALOT OF THE TIMES THOUGH HE GETS ANGRY BECAUSE I DON'T UNDERSTAND HIM OR WHAT HE WANTS,OR THAT I WON'T LET HIM DO SOMETHING HE'S NOT SUPPOSED TO.I KNOW THAT WHEN BABIES GET FRUSTRATED THEY ACT OUT,BUT HE DOES THIS BY THROWING HIMSELF ON THE FLOOR OR TRYING TO BANG HIS HEAD WHETHER IT'S AGAINST SOMETHING OR HE'S USING HIS FISTS ON HIS HEAD.I TRY TO PREVENT THIS SO HE DOESN'T HARM HIMSELF AND CALM HIM DOWN.HOW LONG WILL THIS GO ON FOR THOUGH?I'M AFRAID ONE OF THESE DAYS I WON'T CATCH HIM IN TIME WHEN HE THROWS HIMSELF ON THE FLOOR.. |

I'm going through the same thing with my son he's 14 months old. I don't have any answers for you but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone. And I know how frustrated it can make us as moms. |

He is doing this for your attention and unfortunately, as long as you continue to respond, he will continue to behavior this way. My son, 8 months was taking his bib off and refusing to eat. The more I reacted by getting angry and trying to stop him, he was either challenging or laughing at me. I mention this to a doctor and when he said "he is trying to get your attention", I stop responding to my son when he did this by walking away or ignoring him by surfing the internet.
I noticed a big difference now; he doesn't do it anymore. I'm sure it's hard when your son is hurting himself but try not to respond or react and see what he does.
Good luck! |

the best thing to do is to pick him up and put him in a safe place som that you now that he is not going to hurt him self weather it be in his crib or high cair or lock him in the car seat in the house in the courner as a time out chair then you just ignor him untill he is done with the fit. and when you go to get him out of the time out look at him and say for example we dont through thing at people and ask him to say sorry to you then give lots of hugs and kisses so he know you love him

You aren't alone. My son is 16 months old and when he gets frustrated he will also hit his head on whatever is available (floor/wall). When it is a miscommunication then I will pick him up and try to figure out what it is that he wants. However, if he is acting out because I told him he couldn't touch the outlet then I just move him to the center of a carpeted room and let him work out the tantrum himself. Usually it only lasts a couple of minutes and then it's playtime again. Hope this helps! |
