I defrosted some breast milk that was frozen (deep freeze) in may and it had white particles in it, I didn't smell anything roten/sour, is this normal? |

I'm pretty sure that's it's normal. I usually have to run the milk bag under hot water for a little while even after it's defrosted and then swirl it around to get all the particles blended. I think it's because the fat all clumps together when it freezes and then it has to complelty separate again. |

How long is breastmilk ok in the freezer? I have heard sooo many differing opinions. |

in a regular freezer you can keep it for 3-4 months but in a deep freezer you can keep it for 6-12 months |

Esther, The particles are normal. I did the same thing running/warming it in water and they mixed back in.
Christine, I worked with a lactation consultant who is also a pediatrician and she told us that it is okay in a freezer for a month and a deep freeze 3-4 months. I had also heard many different things also, so I just made sure I rotated it often and even though he was with me, I would use some frozen milk and freeze that day's supply just to keep it cycling through. |
