Autism and Diet
Is there anyone else out there that has put their autistic child on a gluten-free/dairy free diet? If so, please contact me...I'd like to know that I'm not alone, and I have a lot of questions...

Hi Penny! I'm new to the group and looking forward to chatting with other parents about living with an autistic child! Is your child on a gluten-free/dairy-free diet or are you still thinking about it? I haven't made the leap yet, but am very interested, also. My daughter eats so little as it is, most of it with gluten in it! I'm kind of hesitant to do it, but feel that we should at least give it a try, since it might make a big difference! Have you read the book "Unraveling The Mystery of Autism and PDD" by Karyn Seroussi? She is a mom of an autistic boy who apparently was "recovered" from autism because of a change in his diet. I would definitely recommend it if you haven't read it already. I would like to hear about your experience with it and hopefully learn more about it with you!

Hi Penny, my name is Erin and I just joined the group today so I am eager to be able to talk to others who have austic children too. I did try the gluten free casein free diet with my son, but unfortunately we did not have success.I always felt like we were starving him.Something that are family did was we completely changed all or products in our home to natural products, meaning non toxic products.I did five years of research on this subject and could not believe the all the shampoos and home products that have cancer causing agents in them. Scary really! My research uncovered that autistic children's enviroment really impacts the way they process things and react too. Needless to say we say amazing improvements in speech and it helped greatly improve his meltdowns.Well, good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Penny, I am Rosie and my son was just diagnosed. Yes I started the gluten-free and dairy free diet right away. It's been about 1 month and I see improvements already. My son would not eat a thing, well except for chicken, so I have a way to get him to eat veggies by making a chicken/ veggie patty. I really pack it on with anti-oxidant herbs and anti-oxidant veggies. This was my first step. I also just started him on vitamins.

Hi, Everyone

I didn't try the diet yet but will start little byl little. My little girl is so thin to begin with. My husband doesn't want to do it. He's afraid she will loose weight. We'll see how it goes.

Hi, I asked my ped. and he said he doesn't see a huge difference and Krystin Lee is on the lower end of Autism, they are not sure if she even has it but her Autims doctor believes she does but she is so thin he didn't recomanded it but he wanted to put her on meds. and I said no. She does great in school and acts out at home more then anything. Is anyone's children on meds.
