Do you freezing or can food???

We do as much as we can, because in the winter the produce quadruples in price,
now we can get a 8qt basket of large organic green peppers (aprox 16 ct) for $8.00, in the winter its 4.99 per lb (1 lg pepper), I chop and slice and freeze in ziplock bags.
Bushels of tomatoes are only $9.00 now!!!!, we can sauce and even freeze stewed tomatoes in gal. size bags. It so easy, rinse tomatoes cut into quarters, heat in pot, you may add seasonings, onions, celery, or plain, until they soften, then either blend in blender for sauce, or ladel into jars for a hot water bath canning or let tomatoes cool before placing in freezer bags and lay flat in freezer for more space.
My husband loves to can salsa and pickles, he also makes several batches of fruit syrup for friends, usually raspberry, blueberry and strawberry.
Bushel bags of sweet corn are $15.00 now so we break them in half, give them a quick blanch and place in freezer bags when a little cool. My husband uses a straw to suck out the air in the bags so the food doesn't suffer from freezer burn.

does anyone else enjoys these arts?

I grew some vegetables this year and was planning to do some canning, but my crop wasn't what I expected. Great idea to buy now while they are in season. I do prefer freezing all except tomatoes, but I don't have much freezer space. My husband and I talked about buying another freezer for this purpose, since it would pay for itself pretty quickly, but we ended up a little short of cash, so maybe sometime next year.

we have www.freecycle.org, check it out on the net for your area. Anyway, there seems to be a lot people who give away extra freezers, also inthe newspapers. You could also advertise for one, an ad for $7.00 may get you a free one. I think everyone should have an extra, even if its a very small one for $125.00, (7 cu ft?) Its amazing how much money it saves families each year. When you have the extra space it seems to open up for free food, extra turkeys from friends, sale items, ect...
another thought is to place one on layaway, and certainly buy "last year's model" for a huge savings.

Where do you guys find the produce this cheap? I go to the farmers market in my area and the various items are very little price difference than at the store. I still have the satisfaction of knowing it is locally grown and in most cases doesn't have all the pesticides but I'm still paying higher prices than I can afford to buy enough to can or freeze.
