I was told by my pediatrician not to have a bumper in the crib when I first put my son in it. Now that he is squirming and moving around at night, he is starting to get caught in the bars. Is it safe to put the bumper in his crib now or is there another way I can prevent my son from getting caught? |

It's less safe now to use bumpers than it was when he was very little. Now that he's moving around, he can wedge his face in the bumper and suffocate. My son got arms and legs caught between the slats of his crib too but grew out of that phase very quickly. He's 9 months now and crawling all around his crib, so he's able to free himself if his arm or leg gets caught. |

Hi Jaxon...my daughter started moving around the outer edges of the crib when she was 4 months old. We too removed the bumper. I still have a hard time looking at her crib without the cute bumper that dressed it up, but she was/is a lot safer without it. they do however sell bumpers that are mesh like that allow the air to pass through. Unfortunately I dont know where you can find it. Your computer savy... I'm sure you could google it. |

We decided to invest in a bumper once my son was able to move around because like yours, he kept getting his legs or arms stuck and we were afraid he'd really hurt himself. Babies R Us carries a bumper that has holes in it so don't have to worry about suffication. It is great and then you won't have anything to worry about!

Hi Jackie, I have used a bumper in Emilie's crib since she was born. She didn't start to move around until like 7 months or so and I have never had a problem. Now that she is bigger if she rolls into a corner she will usually move herself or let out a cry and I move her. |

Hi Jackie,
Hope all is well with you.
James is very active in his crib and like Jackie says, I have not removed the bumper. He can move around without any problems. My only concern is that he is trying to pull himself to a standing position. I did once removed the bumper until I saw him smashing his head on the crib and had a heart attack. Immediately I put the bumper back on the crib. |

I have these wedge like cushion that velcros to a small blanket. I lay our twins between the wedges so they can't roll over to the bars or bumper. I wasn't sure if I was going to keep our bumpers in, but the girls don't go near them since they have the wedges. They move a few inches up or down but not enough to cause concern. I'm not sure where to get them, another parent handed them down to me. My cousin used them for her boys for their first year. Not sure if we need to use them that long, but I suppose it's better to play it safe. |
