I started at one, once I ran out of formula. My daughter drank it cold right form the fridge, so that is a good idea, so they don't get used to warm milk, in case your out and can't warm it for them!

I was told I could start Sonora at 11 1/2 months . . so I'm opting for a week sooner! (Because I'm still breastfeeding soley-- no formula & of course, baby food). I was told to get 2% by her doctor. I really like the idea of cold milk because you're right, if you're at the grocery store & need milk then . ..!

My son was one when we went from breast to milk. We however started with goats milk. ( it is a little more expensive but easier on the stomache that cows milk. We got it from our regular grocer.) He loved it. After about 3 months his pediatrician said to go to whole cows milk. My son never wanted the bottle and we were fortnate that he could takethe cup so well. Yeah for sippy cups!

Hi Elizabeth,
I am wondering the same thing... So, thanks for asking this question, and our son's both turn one on the same day! How cool is that?!?!? :)

My son started at one. He is now 21/2 and loves his whole milk. He is in the 10% for weight so he will be on whole milk for a little longer. When your son gets older just make sure you monitor his diary intake. My son was very skinny and the nutritionist told me to increase his diary intake. Now he loves it and if you let him he will drink milk all day and not eat food. Having them getting older is fun, I love to cut cute shapes of food for my son. You really can have fun getting creative.

hello,
i had preemie twins that were born with many gasrointestinal problems, so when they turned one I was also very concerned on starting them on whole milk, especially since they were on a prescribed formula for the 1st year. before they turned one(probably 3-4 weeks before) i would initiate whole milk to them in small amounts to see how they would react. they surprised my husband and i and did extremely well. i felt that a gradual introduction to it was better than beginning cold turkey!!

I gave it to my son on and off to get him to like it because I was at the time working part-time and he was fine you are so close to labor day you are fine.. remember our parents did all kinds of crazy things so I think if try a week or two before it is ok.. they use that as a guideline. my doctor said whole milk but I tried whole milk and my daughter is two now but I nursed her a long time and she preferred 2% and my son had to do lactofree and sometimes I would use a 2% as well.. I think they like the calories and all of the nutrients better in the whole milk so that is why the doctors say that,, my son was a bigger baby my daughter is on the petite side , so even now they tell me make sure she is having the whole milk and I try it here and there..... so I guess to make a long story short I try what the docs tell me to do and then if it does not work I change it up a bit for my child to be happy......
