My son is an escape artist.
So my son has done this a few times and I don’t know what to do about it. I live in a four plex and I am up stairs my son is 22months old and knows how to take off the things you put over the door handles to keep them from turning them. Well he can take those off and then he will unlock the dead bolt and open the door and then unlock the screen and open the screen door and walk down the stairs all 20 of them by himself. now see this also sounds bad because it seems like I don’t keep a close enough eye on him, but the first time I was doing the dishes and the sprinklers were on outside so I didn’t hear him then a week or so later i’m in the shower and my husband goes downstairs to start the laundry or change it out then he comes upstairs and cant find him so he running up and down the street calling his name and i’m looking in his favorite hiding places in the house and he’s next door holding some ladies hand walking back to the street to meet my husband. Now in my opinion if he can do all this then he needs to start talking because he won’t talk. He can say a few words here and there and he knows what your saying but he won’t talk. I can’t keep an eye on him all the time other wise my house would become a total mess and nothing would get done so what do I do? I can’t lock him in any room because he can get out (by lock I just mean shutting the door) except the front door.

Have you thought about putting one of those locks like hotels have at the top of the door? to at least keep him from going outside - which is a pain cause it locks every body else out - or replacing the dead bolt lock with a key lock on both sides
just some sugestions good luck

Angela, I have a first Alert alarm attached to ALL doors I do not want opened. It has two types of alarm sounds and scares the day lights out of my son. It simple to install and great for situations like yours.
They sell them at Wal Mart and Walgreens I believe.
