Hi to all you first time mama's,
My little, Max who was born at 33 weeks and 4 days overall seems to be growing and developing just fine. However there are a few things I was hoping other mothers, especially those of preemies can help me with. I have several friends with babies, but non with preemies and I constantly ( although I know I shouldn't) find myself comparing max to his full term buddies. Fist of all, Maxwas born with IUGR- basically he stopped growing inside me. He was born at 3 pounds 5 oz. he spent 6.5 weeks in the nicu just because he needed to put weight on. Our little guy....
He is so strong, happy, eating was challenging at first but he has mastered that for the most part and from what I see seems to be doing fine. However there are a few concerns I have
He is overall a happy little guy who " talks" and smiles alot. But when I bring him out and around new people he is very quiet and observant. We call him out little studier. Is this normal?
Also, while he makes alot of noises and at times will do call and response with us, he is not babbling at all. Is this a major red flag for a 8.5 month old ( 6.5 corrected) ?
He often times will respond by turning his head when we call his name. We know he can hear just fine and for the most part he is very attentive. But sometimes he won't turn when we say his name. We use to joke saying he has selective hearing but I'm wondering if I should be worried about his. About 7 times out of 10 he will respond to his name after saying one or two times.
At 8.5 months he is just about 16 pounds and right around 24 inches long. He is a peanut for sure- anyone else have a baby with IUGR? How much did they way at 8.5 months?
Sorry this is long but I would live to hear from you mama's who may have similar experiences
Thanks so much! |
