Hello! My name is Melissa and I currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan with my husband, my two kids, Amaru who is 9 and Paloma who is 7, and my two cats. We are vegan, we have lived in an intetional cohousing community here for the last 5 and 1/2 years, my husband is from Chile, he is very athletic (loves swimming and triathlons) and I love the outdoors. I am an educator (I used to be a public high school teacher in Detroit) but 3 years ago, I followed my dream and I started a small democratic school here. I sisn't expect to move so soon after starting my school but my husband is a union organizer who just got offered a job at AFT Oregon and it is great timing because Michigan just became a Right to Work state (boooo!) and he has no job security anymore. We don't know much about Eugene. Can folks tell us about living there, raising a family there, good alterntive type schools, any ideas about good places to work in education, if there's an awesome swimming pool for my husband or triathlons, the weather, etc? I'd love to hear the good and the not so good as well. We need to make a decision about moving there in the next week so any and all info would be so extremely appreciated. Thanks so much Eugene parents! We have heard *only* fantastic things about your town but primarily by people who do not have kids.
