Anyone have any good suggestions for minimizing my son's cradle cap? It gets really flaking and very noticeable even just from changing him and lifting his shirt over his head. |

My daughter had this, and I applied Baby oil 1 hour prior to bathing, and washed with baby shampoo. I tried everything, and this was the most effective. It helped some, but only time really did the trick. Good luck it will go away!!!!! I think it bothered me more than anyone!!LOL |

I agree with Vanessa baby oil prior to washing worked best ... I would do it at night and wash it out in the am
I would also sit with a fine baby comb and comb off what was flaking badly ... I had one with little to no hair and she was the easiest and it cleared up not long after doing this a few times ... the other had a full head of hair and hers took longer ... but it did clear up with the same treatment
also they have shampoo for cradle cap and IMO it was a waste of money and the smell was aweful too
good luck |

Try using Mustela Baby Foaming Shampoo. It's expensive ($10 for a 5.5 oz pump) but it really helped with my son's cradle cap. After he got a little older and it went away on its own, I switched to J&J's kid shampoo and the cradle cap came back. As soon as I switched back to Mustela, he was fine again. |

What worked for me was using the baby oil and really massaging it in, leave it in for about an hour and then brush it with a cradle cap brush (around $5 from Target or CVS). I was also told by the hospital that it is okay to use dandruff shampoo on them twice a week. Head and shoulders is what I have used and it is mostly gone, but it was the brush that helped most. |

I talked to my pedi when katie had cradle cap really bad, he said to just wash her hair normally with regular baby shampoo, and to use this weird little "scubby" brush. It made her scalp a little red from the scrubbing but my pedi said that this was best becuase the special cradle cap shampoos and baby oil can actually make it worse. If you can go to a pediatrist office (foot dr) and ask them for one of the brushes they use to scrub feet it's the same thing. It's soft and wont scratch baby's head. |
