Games/activities to do with an 8 1/2 month old
My son and I spend 6 out of 7 days at home. I don't know any other moms in my area and it's hot so we stay inside until evening and then sit on the porch and watch the birds. I'm looking for something new and/or different to play with him because we are both getting bored and tired of the same games every day. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions your kidos love to play?

Peekaboo has been a favorite of my son's, as well as singing songs and reading books. Give him a mirror, that will keep him entertained. I have a big mirror on the wall right at the floor and my son loves to go up to it and play with his image, make faces, shake his head. He also has a riding toy, which is from little tikes and is for 9 month olds and up, so he can use that. Though it is hot out, you could go outside for just a few minutes once or twice a day. The change of scenery would do you both some good.

Get a bucket of water and a large paintbrush. Go outside and let him "paint" anything he wants with the water! Kids love it and there isn't any clean-up!

Playing ball in the house - use a medium sized ball and roll it back and forth to each other.

Put on the "Wiggles" and dance!

hello Jenni

We have a blow up beach ball that we got at the dollar store and it is Alicia's favorite thing to chase that around and roll it back and forth. When I need a change of pace I will let her crawl around in the grass outside and explore, then give her a bath afterwards. Sometimes I will give her some tupperware to play with too because it is something different so she enjoys it. I wish I had some better suggestions for you...If I think of any I will let you know though. (Alicia is 8 months by the way)

Babies at this age love songs that have hand movements like five little ducks, the ittsy bittsy spider, patty cake and such. You can find lots of these online and in books. Also you can play with whip cream if you don't mind the mess. Make a tunnel or tent with a blanket and chairs or a table and let your little one explore the cave. Also dancing to music is lots of fun and great exercise for you.

My son is 8 months and he loves to crawl. I will go around a corner and peek my head out and he comes crawling over, laughing all the way that he is chasing me. Too cute!

I understand about the heat, ugh, I do go to the pool too, he loves floating around. I also wish I knew other moms with babies my age.

We got a kiddie pool for the backyard on hot days. If your son likes water, I'm sure he'd love splashing in a pool. We just fill it in the morning so it can warm up a little & I put my suit on & sit in there with him. He has a blast & we both get to cool off in the water! Sometimes I bring some bath toys out there too.

Thanks everyone! The past few days have been much cooler with a cool front coming through and we were able to spend time outside. Thanks for all the great ideas, I will definately be doing some of these ideas we haven't done with our little boy!

Though I don't have so much problems with finding activities for my 9,5 months old son as we go to a lot of classes, playgyms, libraries, playdates etc. but there is still a lot of time left, lol. I can not imagine sitting all days at home with him, I'd get crazy! But if You don't have anything like that near Your house, that's the way it is.
My son loves to be with me or my hubby on our big bed and just crawl around and roll over and play with pillows and giggles a lot. Also they love to explore at this age so it's good to have some safe but interesting stuff on the floor where he can "accidentally" find it like bottles with water, powder cans (hermetically closed like formula, Nestle etc), plastic bowls and cups, stuff like that, plastic boxes and cartoon ones. What I also do is separating toys.Tthere is "outing" bag with toys only for playing at walks and playdates in the park. There are toys attached to the stroller of course. There are toys in his crib with those he plays only before the bedtime and in the morning. There are toys in his playpen. There are toys in his room (at the moment just playroom with foam floor). And there are toys for playing with when he;s in his walker. Plus plastic boxes with toys which are taken out only to replace those used for a long time. Sounds like tones of toys, I know, but easy to do when You buy in lots at Ebay or other online marketing. But it keeps him busy and interested. Good luck.
