Hi Everyone:
Let me introduce myself. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant. I have been working with children who have all types of special needs for the past several years in both school and clinic settings. My daughter was born with sensory issues. She actually had Spina Bifida Occulta (the mildest type of SB). She had a large bruise at the base of her spine and a dimple which means that at least one of her vertebrae did not form properly. She also had difficulty learning to crawl and walk due to some motor impairments. There were many other sensory issues about sensitivity to sound and touch and a highly reactive emotional nature. I wish I had known about the value of Occupational Therapy and CranioSacral Therapy at that time. But unfortunately I had no idea of what either had to offer.
Now that my daughter is grown, I made a mid-life career change to study bodywork and child development. I have received advanced training in CranioSacral Therapy (CST) which is a gentle but powerful technique that loosens tissue restrictions throughout the body. Tissues can become restricted due to physical and/or emotional trauma (e.g. birth trauma, physical accidents, stress), and this in turn can put pressure on nerves, blood vessels, and membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. When this pressure is gently released, there is increased flow of fluids such as blood, lymph, and cerebrospinal fluid. This means that the brain and nerves are nourished while waste products are removed.
Recently after giving CST to a 9 year old boy who had ADHD, sensory processing disorder, and who was diagnosed as legally blind since the age of 3, for a period of 5 months (weekly 30 min. treatments), his ADHD and sensory issues have mostly resolved and he is no longer legally blind. His eye doctor confirmed that he now has focusing ability in his eyes and he told the boy's mother that he has never observed such a dramatic change in a child's vision before. The boy told his mom that he no longer needs his glasses.
If you have a child who has issues related to ADHD, ADD, or sensory processing, I would love be of assistance. My prices are reasonable and I can come to your home. I can also explain the value of Occupational Therapy and help you understand what types of activities you can do with your child at home to enhance their development.
Feel free to contact me for more information or to schedule a session.
