New to West Chester OH

Hello

My family and I are moving to West Chester OH in January.

My husband grew up there and has family there. We have been living Hilton Head Island SC for 9 years.

I am a stay home mom with 3 kids- ages- 6,4,2

I grew up near Cleveland Ohio so I will be brand new to the West Chester area. I will need lots of guidance on schools and places to take the kids.

I would appreicate any help! I would also love to join a playgroup for my 2 and 4 year old and for me too :)

My daughter is in 1st grade and will be attending Shawnee ECS. If anyone has any information to share on this school that would be great!

My son attends a morning preschool here 2 days a week.

Any advice on preschools in West Chester?

Thanks,

Daneane

Daneane,

We moved to West Chester a year ago from Atlanta.  I have boys 5 1/2 and 1 1/2.  We live in the Shawnee school district, too.

We go to Sharonville United Methodist Church Preschool about 10 minutes from my house.  I found it online when we were moving here.  We are more than pleased with it. The church has a great MOPS group that a lot of the Moms attend.  YOu can google SUMC Sharonville and click on Nursery School.

I also found Good Shepherd Lutheran, but it was pretty far and I did not care for their curriculum as well.

In November I joined the West Chester Mom's Club.  They meet several times a month for various children's activities and playgroups.  They are located in this school ditrict.

As far as things to do, we were surprised when we moved here how much there is to do.  People also seem friendlier than in Atlanta.

I would be glad to answer any questions that I can.  If you would like to meet somewhere once you get here, I would be willing or just to talk on the phone.

Good Luck,

Kathryn

Hi Daneane, I moved to Cincinnati just last year from the UK. I don't know many mums here, but I have heard great things about the Cincinnati Nature Centre's pre-school that is opening next year. Not sure if they have any places left for next year as they are already accepting applications for 2014. Anyway, good luck and I am also happy to help you with any info about the local areas in Cincinnati too. Rachael

Thank you both so much!

Kathryn- It's nice to hear from a former Southern mom! :)  I grew up in Ohio but I prefer the South so much more. I love the sunshine and the beach and really dislike the cold. I'm gonna have a tough time getting reaquainted with the Winter in Ohio!

What is Shawnee like? Are the teachers and office staff friendly? Is it a pretty welcoming school to the parents?

I love my daughter's school here in SC. It has a great open door policy for parents who want to stop in and have lunch with their children or volunteer.

I will look into joining the MOMS Club of West Chester once we are settled. I was in the MOMS Club here for years and liked it a lot.

Thanks!

Daneane,

I hear good things about Shawnee.  My son is still at the church preschool and will go to Kindergarten there, again, next year.  We won't be going to Shawnee until 1st grade in 9/2013.

If I can help you in any way, let me know.

Kathryn
