high maintance toodler?

hi everyone, new here and i was just wondering if anyone else has heard of high maintance toodler.  ever since aiden was a baby he has always been a difficult baby.  started sleeping through the night at 15 months. he started walking at 7 months and has not settled down except for naps.  i send him to time out, he is on a schedule but he is just into everything and does not quit.  i guess the biggest problem is, because i can handle it at home, but where i really start to question him is when we go into public.  EVERYONE elses kid stays in the cart at the store, and EVERYONE elses kid stays with them when they are in the mall.  I have even had to put him in time out at his fathers work for acting up but for some reason it seems like he is the only one who is NONE STOP.  What am i doing wrong?  Any advice.  I work 2 days a week so i am home most of the time.  He does not go to daycare.  i do take him to activities where kids are involved.  i don't know.  I think my husband is starting to think I am doing a crappy job in raising him.  my mother saids "god laura, what a mess he is.  I raised 5 and none of them were like him."  Anything you can give me would be appreciated.  even if to say that is just his personality....I hope!!! Thanks everyone  Oh also he is on track with everything as far as motor and language skills per pediatrician.

One of the things that I had to teach myself whenever my son and I were going somewhere in public was to leave with an optomistic veiw sometimes the fact that we are already viewing the situation as a negative turns it into an actaul negative. Another thing that I would suggest is to never allow anyone to suggest that you have an awful child every child is different and just because someone else may have had an easy job and may have had to take care of more children every situation and environment is diff. hence diff. in all children. Another thing you could try is letting them know off the bat if they will not be getting anything at the store or if they are they have to behave to recieve. Try and make sure you will not be affecting a nap and try and drain alot of your son's energy before you go to the store so then he won't want to get out of the cart.
