Public online group

I'm new at this whole "Group" thing. Can someone help me?

Hi, my name is Shae!  I would like to join you guys' group, but I am very new to the group scene.  I promise I am a legitimate person/SAHM, I just have some concerns about how these online groups work and about the security and privacy.  If someone would be kind enough to help with my transition, it woud be greatly appreciated.  Also, how do you go about setting up local playdates?  I would definitely love to meet other mothers and have my son interact with other children, but I want to make sure this is all done in a very safe and public environment.  Sorry, I'm kind of a worry-wart.

Hi Shae- I recommend going to www.meetup.com & look for playgroups in your zipcode.  This site is great for asking parenting questions, but if you want playdates & friends for your child (& you :) then it is a great site.  I can't recommend it enough (& I do not own or work for them) they just helped me find a group that I LOVE!

Best of luck :)

Where are you guys located? I am in the bradenton/sarasota area. Shae, I worry about safety too, i think a little to much, LOL.. I want to make sure that there are honest people out there. I just want to get together on a playdate with my daughter so she can interact with other people. Do you guys ever meet? Please advise.

thanks

Oh my goodness! About three years ago, I lived in Lakewood Ranch, FL! That's right there in your area!! We now live in the Manassas/DC Metro area. I so wish we lived in Lakewood Ranch, now! It would be so amazing to be able to hang out with another like-minded mom and baby duo! Anywho, I was actually given some really great advice recently to go to the site meetup.com and search for local mom's groups (SAHM groups) in my area. Not all groups will have your personal interests in mind, so you may want to be very selective. Once you find one that looks promising, you just click "Join Group." Then, fill out their application. They may ask you a little information about yourself and your baby and possibly your spouse as well. Make sure that you have to apply to join the group before they allow you to see their event calendar! That is generally a good cue that this is a very safety-concious group. Then, once you are accepted, it should show all of their upcoming and past events on a calendar on the group's webpage. Just start RSVP-ing to as many events as you like. There are quite a bit of playdates that are at local venues, but some are at member's houses. For private residencies, they will only email the addresses the day before the event to those attending. I hope this helps! If you have any other questions or just want to chat, feel free to write me anytime!! Good luck!!

Sincerely,

Stephanie
