Baby boomers, born during the period of 1946 and 1964, are already experiencing the symptoms of aging. The largest population boom was immediately after World War II in 1946. 16 million American returned home and got really busy with their girlfriends or wives. Baby boomers have had an amazing impact on our modern society. They love having fun and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. People couldn’t afford to spend much time on life delights during World War II. After returning home baby boomers opened their windows to sunshine. Life was never the same but at least they got the chance to educate and raise their kids with a desire to love life, appreciate and live each moment. Baby boomers control most of the wealth and spending power of our economy. They also play an important role in politics. Amazingly, as baby boomers age there is less spending and therefore the economy is greatly impacted. Many baby boomers have attracted marketers as they want to pay for their children’s college. Marketers try to sell all kinds of things to them: condos, exotic vacations, expensive cars, etc. Although baby boomers control 80% of the economy, not all baby boomers are rich. According to a report 41 million people are now living on food stamps, and 1 in 7 Americans living in poverty. Unemployed baby boomers have doubled since the beginning of the recession. People ages 55 and up are less likely to be employed. Baby boomers took care of us and now as they age we must take care of them. Growing old brings health complications. Their glory fades away and money runs out but aren’t we thankful for them? They taught us to work hard, gave us courage to face life adversities, classic rock to awake our spirits, and the development of computers. Maybe we should start another baby boomers generation. Having lots of babies can change the course of history and not as bad as some might think. |
