New dad on the block

Nice to see a group for men! New baby girl, she just turned 3 weeks today! She seems to have a hard time between 5 to 10 p.m. every night before we can finally get her to bed. I am curious to how you all deal with the crying and keep sane?

Our youngest had colic every night from 7:00 to 11:00pm every night. It was miserable. The only thing that seemed to calm him down was motion. I took a plastic toddler swing and re-roped it swing flat and hold a newborn, and made the ropes extra long to have a big swing. Long car rides also worked, but when we were sleep deprived, we began to question the safety. Eventually we found a "car ride simulator". It had two parts. The first attached to the bed springs and made the mattress vibrate, the other was a white noise generator to make the sounds of a car ride. Worked like a champ. If nothing else, let me assure you that she will grow out of it. Best of luck Carl

We have a six month old girl and I still remember the pain of the first 6 weeks.  Our sleepless time was between 11 pm and 4 am which was tough to manage.  I found that using a Moby Wrap (target sells them) kept her calm as long as i was moving.  I would strap her in, grab a set of headphones, and walk laps around the house.  Good luck getting through the sleeplessness, and like Carl said it does end and things will get much better.
